You wouldn't be trying to fool us now, would you, Cheyne?
You wouldn't want to cheat a bunch of nice little ol' quilters, right?

If it sounds like bull, and it does....

Ragmop/Sandy--this is my opinion, of course--YMMV

Cheyne,

This group *does* trade blocks. That's just it, we swap blocks for
blocks, not blocks for money. I am sorry that you mother's health is so
poor, but you need to understand that this group constantly gets spam
posts and posts that go against the rules of this group. Therefore, not
a great many people take posts requesting moeny seriously.

It is not really a personal attack at all, just that we are tired of
people requesting money for things that all of us can do ourselve
(making quilt blocks). Whoever referred you to this group probably
would have helped you more by posting a message for you, as it would be
coming from someone we know and trust. Having an unknown person post
only makes the group, as a whole, entirely leery of the whole concept.

Larisa, wondering just who on this group would encourage you totry
selling things on a group that is NOT a market-place type group.

OKay now.....you have an apartment of your own and are attending
culinary classes.neither of which is cheap........sacrifice them both
for a while and use the money to help your mom! I know I said this in a
past post, but you said you are doing everything you can think of to
help.....if you still have the apartment and haven't taken a break from
college to help her, you haven't done everything.

Also, there is another diet/fitness program I would like to suggest, and
it can be done by people with health issues - it's called Body For Life.
It involves changing your diet, weight training, and aerobic activity.
Now, I used it to lose weight after my first child and for aerobic
activity, I walked for 15 minutes to start with. For weights, I used
anything that I could find that was equal weight for each hand. The
food is healthy, but you don't eat 3 meals a day, you eat 6 small
meals....it works, it really works...something that you might want ot
think of.

Thanks for the comments... My mom has done some research and looked
into her insuarnce... they specifically DONT cover anything related
with Weight problems... regardless if she is deathly sick or not. She
hardly eats sometimes, I think she is to the point she will starve
herself because she is just desperate. She doesnt over eat or under
eat. I am a culinary student in college right now, and I have studied
nutrition and just cant help her, from metabolife, to fen phen, to
aiken's, gym classes, dance classes everything. My mom is superwomen
and never sits for more than two minutes, she exausts her whole body
just to keep her mind off her weight and she cant help herself.
Watching her go up and down stairs horrifies me... She cant even come
up to see my apartment on the second floor because she cant get up the
flight of stairs... Nothing has made me sadder knowing my mom cant
come see me. I worry about her, I worry about being away from her and
I just want to help.

Amazingly NOT cross-stitch. Wow! Here's how the quilt was made.....

"I have been obsessed for years with the idea of creating a quilt from tiny
squares of fabric...following a counted cross-stitch design. I began with a
simple little cross stitch design for a Christmas ornament and quickly
learned that it wasn't easy to cut multiple 1" squares of fabric...in
perfect measurement so that they would work in a quilt. It was literally
years before I figured out how to cut the squares perfectly...and then I
began looking for a more challenging pattern. I found this incredible "Old
West" pattern, bought the embroidery floss skeins that were required for the
pattern...and then went out to find fabric to match those colors. To make a
long story short...almost NONE of the colors I needed were available and I
spent the next year dyeing the fabric. Once I had adequate amounts of the
fabric dyed, I went to work sewing the over 10,500 1" squares together. The
piecing alone took over two years. The hand-quilting, binding and detail
work took another year...so in total, this quilt took three years to
complete. The quilt is made of 100% cotton, hand-dyed fabric. "

So, I'm a little confused. Are you raising money to go to college or to buy
your mom a gastric by-pass surgery. VERY risky, by the way. Lots safer
ways of losing weight.

The quilt is a mosaic quilt.. that took three years to make piece by piece
"Betty in Wi" wrote in message ...
The quilt was on Ebay---the auction closed on August 4th and there were no
bids. It ran for about a week. You can see a picture of it if you ask to
also see her closed auctions for the last 2 weeks. I think it's cross
stitch. Pretty much the same story was posted on Ebay as we got here.
Whatever..............

I do work full-time... I WORK 60 HOURS a week.... as a pastry chef in
a restaurant in downtown Houston... I live in a CRAPPY apartment,
which I just moved into just so I could take a cut in rent... to help
my mom... I now live on the bottom floor so my mom can come visit me
because she cant walk up stairs at all..I cant take a semester off, I
am enrolled in a private college *Art Institute* where I have 40,000
dollars I owe regardless if I attend or not, my butt is signed into
that for life. If I take a semester off, they bill me for it as if I
was still attending, I also currently have a 4.0 GPA and have a few
women chef scholarships that ride on me being in attendance, or I will
lose those too... So in otherwords, you tell me to give up the only
chance I have to succeed in life to help my mom yet I am doing
everything I can to help her.... I get no sleep.. I work and do
homework all day long... I have no car... I am sewing quilt blocks to
TRY AND raise some extra money besides what I set aside from the cut
in my rent.... I am still a child... what can you say you knew at 22??
The same as you know now???? If thats the case then I should be a
genius?? I have a whole life to learn, and being 5 feet tall doesnt
help any.
My mom is over 100 lbs overweight... she has done the research believe
me... She knows this can help her, everything else hasnt... AT least
its a shot... You make it sound like, if you had a chance to survive
from cancer by getting chemo one more time, you wouldnt do it... just
because it COULD have the possibility of NOT working... Its worth the
try...

You arent trying to slam me, yet everything you said was a direct
slam... I am doing what I can.... I work, I MAINTAIN a 4.0 GPA, I cut
my rent back... I am living on a sandwich a day, sewing quilt
blocks.... and consistently attending all classes and school which run
from 7 in the morning to 11 at night...

I didnt ask to be hurt... and if anything... my feelings have just
been crushed... I didnt ask for you to give me money... I just asked
to trade... :*(

If you were hurt, you would want your daughter to do the same... or
would you be honored your daughter did this?? MY mom doesnt know I am
doing this for her... I just want to repay her for the love and
support she has given me...

You really should say who referred you as this is not something that a
regular member would do

a daughter who is
only 22,

I am just a child asking for some help.

These last 2 statements are contradictory. A person who is 22 can no
longer be considered a child. Also, if the situation is so dire, not
returning to college for a semester might be a better option - instead,
what about working full-time to help earn the money needed to defray the
cost of medical treatment? Everything I have read has said that
gastric-bypass surgery is something that is *not considered for tha
majority of people, and they must be at least 100 pounds overweight.

In reading your original post, you have mentioned issues that affect my
mother as well - thyroid problems, blood pressure, arthritis. I am not
asking for help for my mother, but am doing everything I can to see that
she gets the help that she needs. She is still able to work, adn so she
does so. She takes medicine for her thyroid, which may or may not help,
medicines for depression and fibromyalgia, and who knows what else as
she has chosen NOT to keep me posted of her continuing medical troubles.
Several times, my DH and I have sent her money to help her out with
finances because she needed to use her money for doctors visits and
medicines.

I am not trying to slam you, just suggesting that, instead of furthering
your education (especially if there are children at home that your
mother is having difficutly taking care of), take time to work and earn
some money to help with everything. College will still be there.
