Default Son coming home from hospital today

The doctor just gave approval for my son to leave the hospital this
afternoon. Sorry to say his new quilt isn't ready but since the temp
outside is 90 I don't think he will notice.

Doctor removed his drains which was one thing I was worried about
caring for at home. The doctor would not give him a specific diet but
just said to avoid beef and raw vegetables for at least two weeks. I
think Tom should take it a little slower. A friend who's husband has
had this surgery at both the University of Chicago hospital and our
local hospital is dropping off the diet schedule he was given at U of
C which she felt was much better.

Thank you for your prayers but don't stop. Healing during the next few
weeks is very important.

Indeed it is. After a brush with bowel cancer, an uncle of mine had a
temporary colostomy, later reversed. After both surgeries, he was on a
light diet for a while, so I think it best your son takes things cautiously.

Prayers for his continued good recovery are still happening!

Next step forward, Susan.
Hope your son doesn't get too ambitious, too soon. I expect he's of
that sort of age though!
Hope he'll continue to do well.

It's great that he is coming home so soon. Susan, avoid serving Tom
anything likely to cause gas. One fellow I know was served chili
beans by the hospital staff as his first real meal after similar
surgery. To make a long story short, he said it caused the worst pain
he ever endured.

Great news Susan. I think I would agree with taking the diet a little
slower, beef and raw veggies can be not very fun with crohn's. Has he
had anything more than clear fluids at the hospital? I really hope this
works for him.

(((hugs all around)))
