Mini RCTQ meet-up!
TerriLee in Washington and I, along with Marilyn (Terri's DMIL), had a fun
meetup today! I picked them up at Marilyn's house, then we headed to Nyssa, Oregon to my favorite quilt shop, Marilynn's Pickets and Patchwork. They always make you feel like you were visiting your best friend's house when you go in the shop. We had lunch (the shop has a lunch counter with sandwiches, soup, salad & espresso in the front corner) and than got down to the serious business of buying fabric. Terri had bought a really pretty piece of fabric at another shop yesterday (which she forgot to bring along), but she managed to find several pieces of fabric to go with it. When we got back to Marilyn's house the fabric she went with it perfectly! Yes, Pat, I bought a FQ as instructed plus several more pieces of fabric that I absolutely had to have! TerriLee will report to you when she gets back on the ng about her DMIL. We had so much fun! I highly recommend RCTQ meetups! I've never met an RCTQ'er that I didn't like immediately!!! Oh, and I forgot to mention the huge cookies that we each 'had' to have for dessert! I even managed to stay pretty close to my Weight Watcher points today even with the lunch we had (BBQ beef sandwich in honor of Lyndon B. Johnson's birthday today!!!! -- Donna in Idaho! Whew! Now that I'm almost caught up (only about 500 posts left to go),
I can take a break and post a little. Donna, Mom & I had a great time at our mini-meetup. Donna, being the wonderful person she is, volunteered to drive us, and even gave us a choice of shops to visit. The one we chose (her fav, I found out later), was absolutely wonderful. The owners know Donna well (imagine that?! VBG) and treated mom and me like long-lost friends, too. The lunch was great, and the fabric selection was incredible. I got some really nice Oriental prints to go with the backing I bought over at "2 Sisters" (their shop is a little house, painted bright purple!!) in Meridian the previous day. That story is pretty funny. My DH took me there, 'cuz he's a good guy and is always interested in what I'm doing, quilt/craft-wise. He was browsing through the greens and ran across a teal fabric with yellow-gold Japanese dragons & bamboo on it. He abosolutely loves dragons, so he brings it to me, asking if I could use it in a quilt for him. Now, the pattern is way to big to even think about cutting up, so I bought 3 yds for a backing. I don't think I've ever bought the backing for a quilt first before. Oh, well. Anyway, I did find some "front" fabrics in nice colors with bamboo prints and other Oriental-type prints. Now I just have to dig through the stash to find a solid purple and a solid yellow-gold to go with them. I told my DH he needed to pick a pattern, but not something so complicated that I'd never get it finished. LOL. We had a good trip, all in all, and I already posted the good news about my DMIL. Next will be a post about my new sewing space that's almost ready to move into!! Maybe tomorrow. grin Donna in Idaho wrote: TerriLee in Washington and I, along with Marilyn (Terri's DMIL), had a fun meetup today!
