There was a before? Hmm -suppose that's true..... Well, I've been sewing
since age 6. Didn't actually make a quilt until I was about 25, but spent
lots of years acquiring scraps before then.
As for the rest of life, there's been a bit of this, a bit of that.

I sewed clothes for my kids until they decided they wanted to wear
jeans and sweatshirts like everyone else. Now my older one would like
me to make her suits for work and I tell her it is less expsensive to
buy them.

I didn't give up too much when I started quilting. I still tend to my
herb gardens, make my own hand creams and moisturizers, bird watch,
volunteer at church, and run the food pantry. Quilting is an additional
interest and although I've never considered myself creative, this seems
to be the one hobby that has stuck. I've also done stamping and
furniture painting.

I honestly can't remember what I did with all the spare time I had
before quilting, probably just more housework, and I really don't miss
that.

Sewed my own clothes until the tissue paper patterns somehow shrank.
Road my motorcycle.
Graded papers and lesson planned.
Commuted for 3-hour round-trip.

Before quilting I beaded and played with clay! Before that I painted folk
art, before that I made dolls and before that I sewed clothing and make
costumes.

went out with friends, studied, dated! craftwise I don't remember,
though I always have been creative, drawn and painted, only when i moved
to the US and started gradschool I started acquiring quilting supplies..
my then boyfriend was 3 hours away so unless I was studying our out I
had a lot of free time! Wow, I had FREE time!!!! Before that they were
all make do hobbies - fabric scraps a clothesmaker neighbour gave me
were made into a coverlet, I 'scrapbooked' with things cut out of
magazines, I knitted with the left over yarn my aunt gave me...

The crafts I gave up when quilting too over a knitting, counted
cross stitch, rubber stamping/card making and smocking.

The only one I miss is smocking, but I don't have any little girls
around anymore to make pretty dresses for. Maybe great-nieces or
granddaughters someday.....

Oooooo! I ran across those Annie's Attic crocheted Barbie dress patterns in
my craft closet the other day. I must have 30 of them. I got them in the
early 90's. If I recall, I got them through the mail, every month. They
are so elaborate and so beautiful. I doubt I ever make a one of them. But
they were fun to look at again.

Lots of stuff, including (but not limited to) garment sewing, counted
cross-stitch, knitting, crocheting, woodworking, more reading, macrame.
These have pretty much all gone by the wayside now, except for an
occasional garment (mainly pj's for the grandkids, my swimsuits, and
dollclothes for DGD)
