If all goes as planned (insert maniacal laughter here), I hope to have FFF3
done in time to enter as a group quilt in the State Fair. I'm still trying
to decide if presentation should come before or after the fair, which is
Oct. 17-24, but entries due the 11th.

And yes, there will be pictures. If the family does not want their pics
online, I'll just do pics of the quilts.

Well.... that would explain why Frood posts have been as scarce as hen's
teeth lately. How soon before the FFF's get presented, and will we get to
see pictures?

What is a loop start? .......

This is an embroidery technique that is used when working with an even
number of strands of fiber -- 2 or 4 or 6, etc. You don't need to knoth or
anchor your fiber before you begin stitching and this helps to reduce bulk.
Take a length of fiber TWICE as long as you are normally comfortable working
with. Fold the length of fiber in half and thread the two ends through your
needle. Make sure that the fold -- or loop -- hangs lower than the two loose
ends. Take your first stitch, going down through the fabric and then back up
again, pulling the fiber through the fabric until the loop end is close to the
surface of the fabric -- DO NOT pull the loop through the fabric, make sure it
is about an inch or so above the fabric.
Next, put your needle through the loop and pull the fiber to tighten the
loop down close to the fabric but leave a bit of slack. BEFORE you have the
loop pulled tight, put your needle (with the fiber threaded through it) back
DOWN through the hole it came up in and pull the needle and fiber completely
through to the back of the fabric. When you snug the fiber down against the
fabric it will automatically pull the loop end to the back of the fabric. You
can now continue stitching in which ever manner you are using. It's a GREAT
way to start a length of fiber and I use it all the time :-)! CiaoMeow ^;;^

I just this minute finished (except for the BIG button needed for closure) a
BBBIIIGGG quilted tote bag that will hold a big quilt (or a small child).
It has something like 12 pockets on it (including one under the bottom of
the bag that will hold one of the new 8 1/2" x 24" rulers. It measures
approximately 19" deep and 37" wide.

I'm afraid the biggest problem will be - I'm going to get it so full I won't
be able to lift it!

Well? ;-)
What sort of things does everyone have going at the moment in the quilt
family? Dragging out PIGS or finishing up UFOs and WIPS or have new quilts
started appearing?
I'm still working on the queen size LC borders, getting ready to MQ the
siggy quilt, plotting the next borders on DDs quilt, and playing with
layouts for Mike's 'Things go better with Coke" quilt. Sometime in the
middle of those I need to design and make two quilted Christmas stockings.
Lets hear your list!

I'll post a picture. Not sure about the pattern - I'll have to ask my
friend that taught the class about that. I've been drooling over her tote
bag for a long time. Finally decided to take her class. I knew I would get
it finished if I did that. If I would have just gotten the pattern from
her, I probably never would have gotten it done.

Hand quilting my antique American quilt from Texas. Also working on
block of month from my quilt guild.
My twin sister is an art and textiles teacher and I suggested she do a
small quilt project with the senior girls. They are all very excited
to start. I chose a simple Indian Star block to be bordered as a
cushion top. They will hand sew the seams and sandwich and hand quilt
the block. My sister lives 1000 miles from here so I am helping via
mail and phone calls! She hasn't quilted before, but is very
experienced with textiles and loves my work. When the girl's projects
are finished, I'll post some photographs here. My sister went to a
craft n stitches show and purchased lovely bright fabrics in several
color ways.

I have just completed two years as Newsletter Editor for my quilt
guild and hand over to a new committee volunteer this month. Yippee!
This will give me another free week in the month to do quilty things!
Loved doing this job but time for a change.

Cheers
Bronwyn
