That reminds me of something I heard-

Iceland's always green and Greenland's always ice.

AFAIK there are no reindeer in Greenland -they live in northern
Finland/Norway/Sweden. Greenland has polar bears and seals. And fish.

Reindeer would be appropriate for Greenland...

Hello all,

I have an idea and thought I might get some ideas from your collective
wisdom.

I have a friend who just loves world maps. He will sit for hours

looking

at

the one hanging on his wall. So I thought it would be fitting to make

him

a

world quilt of sorts. He REALLY likes my NZ critter quilt so I would

like

to do something similar.

My idea is to get a world map panel and surround it with blocks of

appliqué

critters/plants from around the world; things that are representative

of

the

different countries. For example Australia=kangaroo/koala/eucalyptus,
NZ=Kiwi/Silver fern, USA=Golden Eagle/Pine trees (west coast anyway!).

What critters (mammal, bird, insect, fish, amphibian, etc) and plants
represent which countries for you???

I would suggest a bald eagle for the USA, because that's our national bird, as
opposed to the golden eagle.

Lesseee......For Mexico...a burro, perhaps?

Persian gulf: oil wells, camels
Pacific NW: add orcas to the list---& maybe rhodies (they'll work for a lot of
other places, too)
India: peacocks, tigers, heffalumps
Africa: more heffalumps (t'other kind), giraffes, innumerable other kinds of
critters
Oz: roos, koalas, aboriginal art, didgeridoos
Russia: stripy onion-top buildings, troikas
Hawai`i: ukes, guitars, hibiscus, palms
.....etc etc etc....G

Here in my part of Maryland, east coast of the US, we have seafood
(Oysters and Atlantic Blue Crab), Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, Osprey
(fish hawk), Black-eyed Susans (state flower-yellow with brown center)
and LOTS of corn growing. Nancycog in MD

For Las Vegas, a lounge lizard or a pool shark.

No, they are groupies. The roadies are the crew who set up the stage and
amps and wires and stuff.
