"nana2b" wrote in message ... If I had a long arm maybe I would enjoy the quilting part more. Some do, but I know a lot of people who've bought a longarm and found out they still don't like the quilting part. That makes it nice for people who want a good deal on a gently used longarm. -- Kathy A. I love to piece. I guess I would say I love both the
starting a quilt and the finishing, the in between stuff is ok but the fun of starting something new is great. The finishing is better. I prefer the technique of piecing the best. Haven't actually tried paper
piecing or applique. Not interested in paper piecing but may try some applique later on. I much prefer the piecing part to the quilting part 'cause I love to see how the design turns out. This is probably why I have 5 1/2 quilt tops waiting to be quilted Also I need at least a whole day at a time to do the quilting whereas in piecing I can do a little piecing every nite after work and dinner. -- Kathy in CA Quilting Stuff: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/kathys1068 "Lynne Van" wrote in message ... I really enjoy playing with fabric the more than any other part of the process. I love color and texuture. lisae |

I think I like buying the fabric. VBG
I also like paper piecing, seeing the perfect points. Vikki in WA State "Lynne Van" wrote in message ... We've had this conversation before, but it's been awhile. Really, I have two questions: 1. We've had this conversation before, but it's been awhile. Really, I have two questions: 1. What technique do you like the best (appliqué, piecing, paper piecing, etc.) Why? Handwork - whether quilting or applique or piecing, I like it best when I have the leisure to do it by hand. 2. What part of the quilting process do you enjoy the most?(design, fabric selection, piecing, quilting, etc.)Why? I like it best when I get to work on my own thing at my own pace. I do more things for class samples and such that I have a week to crank it out and that isn't fun...that's work. So, I really enjoy it when I can choose to do a piece that I want to do with no deadline, but can just work whenver and enjoy the process. marcella |

Machine piecing, especially strip piecing because it goes so quickly. Hand appliqué is most relaxing and soothing, almost like meditation. 2. What part of the quilting process do you enjoy the most?(design, fabric selection, piecing, quilting, etc.)Why? First design, because I can just let my imagination and creativity run wild. Second shopping, because my stash *never* measures up to the imagination and creativity (see above ;-) ) And yes, I know the answer for some of you will be "all of the above"...but try to be a little more specific, please. I like:
1) Techniques that that I already know and can make work, so I can quickly try out an idea in my head or that I have seen in a book or at a quilt show, and see how it looks in "real life". It's so exciting when it looks just as good, or often even better, than I imagined. 2) Trying new techniques, even when they go horribly wrong at first, because I am a pig-headed momma elephant who hates to be beaten by any stupid set-in seam, for example, and it feels so GOOD when I finally get it licked. 3) But mainly I like looking at beautiful quilts in the flesh, or on the internet, or in books, or magazines, and dreaming about the day when I make a quilt just like that. I sometimes worry that if I took all the money I have spent on quilting books and magazines, and spent it on fabric instead, I could have a whole lot of fabric. Or if I spent it on a nanny and a housemaid, I would have time to make more quilts! -- Mel Rimmer |

I like the technique of piecing best because it is quick and I start to
see my vision come together rather quickly. I like to process both of piecing and quilting. Quilting because I'm close to the end and it gives me incentive not to put it down until it's down. Because it's ultimately the final product that gives me the most joy because it was something I created. Take Care Joanna Remove "quilt" to reply |
