Oh dear, I do have things to do!
If I was to take up bopping those two on the nose anytime they
contemplated being naughty it would certainly be a lifelong
commitment.

I do already have a "blonde bonker" from when DD2 was smaller, well,
living at home. So I might be able to get Leslie in line after a few
years. Polly I fear is a lost cause.

Just don't try it on a king.
I have long since learned that curves are good, curves are grand,
curves should always move foward and not in circles when the quilt is
massive.
Round and round things on big quilts are easiest by hand. Unless you
have a long arm I s'pose.

Miss Polly,
That depends!! Let's talk about free motion machine quilting. I use a
darning foot and drop the feed dogs.

To echo quilt an appliqué motif, I like to stitch first line very close
(1/8" if possible) to the motif. Then I go out to the edge of the foot. I
try (the operative word is 'try') to let the edge of the foot skim along the
previous line of stitching for the second and all subsequent lines. Of
course eventually the line is interrupted. Then I just swirl or loop over to
a place where I can continue the echo.

To echo quilt a quilting motif, I would start the first line at the edge of
the foot, and continue as above. That is so the quilting motif will not get
lost in the surrounding quilting.

So, whatca doin'?

A machine quilting question. Tell us how you echo. I 've tried (or seen)
echoing just as close as you can manage to get with the SM foot. I've
tried moving out 1/8" or 1/4" in a sort of shadow effect. I've tried
barely following the edge of the vine or appliqué with just a loopy
stipple.
What technique do you use? Why? Easier, looks better, what? Just
wondering. I don't think the preemie babies I stitch for will give a
happy hoot but I always, always would like to do better. Polly

There was a little quilt I wanted to try, a Partridge in a Pear Tree. I
just happened to have some fabric that was just right for the pears; they
look like I worked really hard to get the shading pretty. The pears wanted
to be echo quilted and I was hoping for guidance on how to improve my
echoes. I apologize if that tune goes endlessly around and around in your
head. Polly

Its sitting in my sewing bag complete with quilting thread and other
pretty threads for embelishment. There's a very creased piccy of it in
my webshots 'Quilting in Progress' (or as it should be called 'Quilting
in the Sewing Bag!)

I have the same block, finished, in my Sampler Quilt in the 'Quilts'
section. That one is quilted. I just enjoyed doing the block and decided
to do it again in Christmassy fabrics - and, oh dear, Christmas is coming!

Its one of the free pattterns on that site.

Hi, I am a long-time lurker and enjoy so much seeing all the beautiful
quilts, I also quilt but have never posted any pics, I think I'm too old to
learn how to do all the picture resizing etc. I looked at the Partridge in
the Pear Tree block and saved it as it so beautiful. I enjoyed this
particular quilting site, but saw you have to join. Do you ladies belong to
this quilting website? I did order something from there, it is the Cats #2
wallhanging. It is so cute, can't wait to get the pattern. Cats #1 is also
nice, but I really like the #2.
I was just wondering about your thoughts about the website if you do belong.
How much dues do you pay etc?

I subscribed for one year about 3 years ago - it says it is $15 now. I
downloaded all the patterns I wanted in that time. You only got the
templates - no instructions.

I haven't bought any patterns from the site, so I can't comment on that
side.

I've been a "member" for several years now - 'bout $15 a year - and just
when I think I have all the patterns I'll ever use, they come up with at
least one new one I can't pass up! G I figure that $15 is much less than
I'd spend on a few patterns elsewhere.

Thanks everyone, and Judy, I think $15.00/yr is less than the magazines,
which I've decided I'm not renewing. I was taking waaay too many, and some
I really never got anything from them, so decided I need to back off for a
while. What I saw on this website looks so nice. And I can't wait until I
get the Cat #2 pattern, which BTW is on the way. Thanks again for the
endorsement and I believe I will give it a try for a year.
