:-) I once asked a friend what worked with teething.... she smiled
sweetly and said locking yourself in your room alone. :-)

Other than that, I like Joy's suggestions! :-) Vibrating teether.
Here in the states when they reach 6 months my pediatrician told me the
dosing for ibuprofen and it worked a little better since it has better
antimflamatory qualities. A cold apple in one of those food nets
worked, but basically holding her and keeping her distracted as much as
possible was my best shot. :-) It doesn't last forever... it just
feels like it! ;-)

I only noticed that his first tooth had just poked through the gum yesterday
because I stuck my finger in his mouth! He also rolled over by himself the
first time yesterday afternoon. He chews on several things, he has a teething
rattle with rubbery bits on it, a teddy bear wrist rattle - he likes to chew
on it's nose, and sometimes he'll like to chew on cool, wet cloth. He's
actually sleeping this morning, after his first feed, so I think the worst
may be over for now.

Roly poly baby, huh? Don't leave him in the middle of the bed while you
fetch something, then! I noticed James's first tooth the same way -
grizzle grizzle chew che - OUCH!

'bout 27 years ago, first kidlet was teething.the HARD way. Dr says "get a
shot glass--fill it with whiskey--dip your finger in--rub it on baby's
gums--really all OVER the gums not just the sore spots. Then YOU toss off
the rest--can't let good whiskey go to waste.

But I don't drink

That much won't hurt YOU or the baby.

so I did--it didn't --and baby relaxed enuf to get to sleep.

Later that day, we went down to the Pharmacy and picked up a prescription
for paregoric......used only at the worst of times (big diff between a
grumpy baby and a screamin-meeeemmies one)

Another thing that I remember doing--clean off a cooked chicken leg
bone--FREEZE it---.let baby chew on it. Just be sure to STAY with the baby
without distraction--soon as it starts to unthaw you should throw it away.
(no, it won't give food poisioning after it had not only been cooked but
frozen as well) I have never had any disintegrate but it could always
happen.

Butterfly (do they ever let you have paregoric anymore? I don't know)

DS is most definetley teething, I can feel one!
But he will not sleep during the day and is very
unsettled, not crying just whingey - very whingey

HELP!

Go get a pillow. Now put your face in it. Let us scream
together....AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

Ahhhh, doesn't that feel better? Jacob is 8 1/2 months old and has
not ONE tooth yet but seems to be teething FOREVER. So far, I have
tried Orajel with him but it just seems to irritate him to have a numb
mouth. I used Orajel with DD1 and DD2 and sometimes it worked,
sometimes it just aggravated (sp?) them more. So did the cold wet
washcloth. Tylenol drops worked great to get the edge off. They all
seem to enjoy chewing on my finger most of all. They enjoyed teething
biscuits but I don't like to clean up the mess afterwards.

I will definitely try the frozen bagel, though. Let us know what you
end up trying next.

Hang in there. Sometimes I got all three kids
crying/screaming/nagging at once and want to rip out all the hair on
my head...but it's a temporary feeling. Sometimes distracting him
(and distracting you) by going outside for a change in scenery, some
sun, and fresh air, will ease both of you.

Just make sure that you remove any cartilage on the ends of the bone. My
mother tells the story of how I nearly choked when I managed to chew the
cartilage of a chicken leg bone when I was some over a year old.

When DS was 5 1/2 months old, he was having teething issues as well as
a nasty case of diaper rash. I had been told that the best thing for
diaper rash was sunshine, so we put a large towel on the linoleum
floor and placed him there on his tummy. I gave him a limp piece of
celery from the refrigerator.

We have the best picture of this little naked baby on a towel chomping
on a piece of celery, wearing nothing but a huge grin. DS (age 15)
was NOT happy when DD (age 13) showed it to his girlfriend.

So far he's onlt rolled over once, but he's doing a lot of 'break-dancing'
in the cot trying to roll over! Now I've got to try to stop him chewing
on his fingers, he's got a sore spot on one from either the chewing or
the slobber. One of the worst things about him teething ATM is that the
weather is so hot and humud that I can't cuddle him as much, that and the
fact that he's too heavy to hold onto for too long - he weighs in at 9kg!
(but he's got the lenght to go with it)

Distraction seems to work, even if the worst is over for now. He needs
two good day sleeps plus over night, so if he misses a day sleep he's
very sleepy the next day. His tooth wasn't showing a week ago, so it
looks like, at least with the first one, that it came through quick!

You can still get paregoric from some of the old doctors. (The "good" ones)
lol It's used sometimes for really bad cases of diarrhea. My grandmother has
told me stories of women using it on wash day to keep the babies sleeping so
the women could get the wash done. It's no wonder that they had to start
monitoring the stuff more closely.

Being a vegetarian that didn't hold with giving babies liquor to quiet

decent nights sleep I got for the first 5 years of that childs life.
