Mine is wheatberry bread, butter (no darn margarine!), peanut butter and a
layer of those thick, extra crispy potato chips. YUM!!! Enjoying one
right now and The HairyButt Gang is impatiently waiting for their little

Beetroot on white bread with margarine, I've not had it for a while
family thinks it's weird, but I like it.

Default OT Mayo vs Miracle Whip (was OT Just for fun- oddball sandwiches)

My mom would purchase either Best Foods or Miracle Whip depending on
which one was on sale at the time. I personally can't stand either of
them.

Ah, another fond childhood memory! LOL

Growing up (back when I could eat such things), it was Best Foods mayonnaise
or nothing in our house. (This is Hellman's for those of you in the eastern
US). One time my Dad and I were at Grandma's (his mother), and she was
fixing sandwiches. She got out the Miracle Whip, and Dad and I said "no
thanks, we'll just have the sandwiches bare". Boy, did Grandma go on a
rampage because her beloved Miracle Whip had just been dissed! We held our
ground, though, and had the sandwiches bare. After that, Dad always brought
a teeny jar of Best Foods when he came to visit (I think mostly to tweak his
mother! LOL)

Here's me thinking that I don't have oddball sandwiches, all mine are
normal !

beef tongue, just cook it and eat it while still warm and there is no
need for bread

Peanut Butter and banana- thats normal
Peanut Butter and sugar - thats normal

Nothing oddball about my taste

One of my favorite sandwiches is beef tongue. I know it sounds gross,
but tongue is really tender and good. Best cooked in a pressure cooker,
with seasoning. Cool it, peel it and slice for sandwiches with good
mustard. yummy..........I think I need to go find the one that is in the
freezer and cook it tonight. Rick is out of town and I can have it all
to myself.

O.K. I guess I'm a purest. I don't like a mixture of lots of gloppy stuff.
My tastes run to white bread, margarine, and dill pickles sliced.....or
substitute radishes or cold sliced boiled potatoes.

We grew up with Miracle Whip, and all my family still use it exclusively.
We only had real butter on special occasions, as my Dad always said it
tasted "greasy"! We switched to real butter as soon as we could afford it,
and I have been making all my own bread for most of my married life (39
years). No bread machine, just a large bowl and two hands! I often look
back to the time when I had 2 teenage boys in the house, and packed 3
lunches every day - lots of bread! I just made sure that the bread came out
of the oven when no one but me was home. DH always remarked that we had one
loaf of crustless bread in each batch!
As far as odd sandwiches, my Mom and I used to eat peanut butter, miracle
whip and lettuce sandwiches. It never caught on with my family, so I'll be
the last to consume one here!

When you have the homemade bread around all the time, it's not so much
of a treat anymore, though you definitely don't want to eat most of the
store-bought bread anymore. I have had a bread machine for 10 or more
years and am on my third one. When I make a loaf, I slice it and put it
in the freezer. We can then take out as many slices as we want when we
want bread. My mother always baked bread, so I grew up on homemade
bread; we thought the Wonder bread from the store was a real treat. (I
no longer think that!) We always had homemade cookies, too, so it was a
treat to have a store-bought cookie at Grandma's. Guess it's all in what
you're used to.

The French bread from the bakery is bad enough. You pop that in the
microwave and it tastes almost as good.

You should try it on home made bread. By the time the bread machine
stops running I am fairly starving for the bread and can hardly wait
for it to cool much. Warm fresh bread and butter is a balanced meal,
right?

We always had both in the house because my mom prefered Miricle Whip
but my dad preferred mayo.

I have to say Miricle Whip is much better on a peanut butter sandwich
than real mayonnaise.

DH much prefers mayonnaise to Miricle Whip. Being as I think the stuff
in a jar is bland tasteless poo, I generally take the ten minutes to
make some when he wants it. With the mixer, not with a whisk, my poor
little wrist muscles are not that strong! That way I can use a spiffy
herbed vinegar and it comes out tasting like something.

You bring back a 'funny now' memory. We made homemade bread from when we
were little (no machines then) but my Dad LOVED his Mom's bread the most.
One day my mom took us kids to Grandmas. She sent a homemade loaf home with
us. That night Mom served it with the homemade butter (yes, we HAD cows,
too) and dad said:."You finally made it as good as Ma's. My mom cried. Dad
was in the dog-house for a week! His mom made the best bread-mom's mom made
the best pies and we all knew it.....so did mom. As I got older, it was MY
Job to do all the baking. Dad could tell when I made a cake from scratch or
from a mix. It got to where the 'mix cakes' were only for HB cupcakes for
school or for a cake walk.

Butterfly (cakes are from mixes now)

I'm not sure this is all that weird... or maybe I'm *really* weird because
I don't think it's weird!

Every year we'd make Thanksgiving sandwiches after the holiday -- slice of
bread, mayo, slice of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce,
mayo, another slice of bread. (Gravy may be used ONLY if you've run out of
cranberry sauce). Yum!

YUM
Yep, that's how I would make it. Though I might leave off the mashed
potatoes for an extra helping of (chestnut) dressing.

I like bologna, mustard, pickle relish and potato chips.

I like tuna and potato chips too.. and, mom used to make cucumber
sandwiches. I thought they were fancy, and not at all weird.

My son liked bread with mustard - which was difficult to explain to the
kindly pre-school teacher who wanted us to know that mustard was NOT A
FOOD - and did we need food stamps?- Hide quoted text -

- Show quoted text -

All three sound soooo good!! we use the mashed potatoes as a spread
then put the cranberry jelly, then turkey, sage/bread dressing-wet
only, and mayo in the middle.
mmmmmmm.

also-my daughter eats banana, mayo and sugar on white bread. i dont
like them, but the tuna and potatoe chips with some italian dressing
is awesome.
