Alas the poor boy must have been doing it for too long too as he sometimes
recommends the wrong products!

Fred, if you really listened on these groups, you'd have learned we

don't
like advertisers popping in, especially on such a nice friendly thread

this.

Well, I'm in Texas now, only 50 minutes south of Houston, so it isn't too
bad.

I guess I'll join in right here!!!!

I am Tricia. My posts show up as A&T.

I have only been posting for a year. I made my first quilt in 2002. I have
been sewing garments since I was 9. My mom taught me. I loved it so much
that I majored in Home Economics in college, but I don't teach high school
anymore. NEVER liked teaching! I minored in art, which helps a lot in
picking fabric color choices.

I have only one son, (not by choice) who is a 21 year old photography major
at the Art Institute in Colorado. He will graduate in Dec. '05.

For the past 14 1/2 years, I have been married to the most wonderful,
gorgeous creature on earth, Anthony, who completely supports my fabric
habit. (just bought me $70 worth of fat quarters in Kansas and Colorado when
we visited my son for Christmas!) And bought me a Grace frame for Christmas
last year. He loves looking at all the gadgets made for quilters and reads
my guild newsletter before I do.

I love the piecing part of quilting. It is like a fabric puzzle to me. But,
I am very much into the machine quilting as well. I love the accomplishment
of having done the entire thing myself.

I am currently working on a queen size quilt for my son, then I need to make
a baby quilt before May. THEN, I absolutely am going to finish some WIP's
before I start something new! (wink, wink)

drawbacks.. No sewing machine center, or LQS ( will I did find one in
a another town 60 miles away.. but there shop is very low on goods..

Nah. Polly Esther is just the result of one of those silly games, "Name

the
Baby", that we're expected to play at baby showers. My real name is never
seen on the internet. You would all be wanting my autograph or the Feds
would be wanting a sample of my DNA. Polly

My volunteering is mostly church things, namely our thrift shop. Did
help with a reading program at our local elementary school but they
changed the format so that instead of having the same child all the
time, I never knew who I would have.
I couldn't build a relationship with a child that way so I quit. Do a
few things in Quilt guild, but actually find myself slowing down as the
years go by!

Hi. This is a great idea for the start of a new year!

I'm Marilyn (online as Marigold). I am married for the 3rd and LAST time
to
a wonderful guy who is also married for the 3rd and last time! Between us
we
have 16 children ( I have 5 biological, he has 5 biological and the other
six were picked up in second marriages but we've kept them all!) They
range
in age from 12 to 32. None of them live with us at present, but you never
know what tomorrow might bring. We are now at 18 grandchildren (last one
born Dec 1 2004). We have two dogs (golden retrievers) and 1 calico cat.

I have been sewing as long as I can remember(long time!) Made several
baby
quilts back in the early 70's but didn't really think of it as quilting
because it wasn't cutting up scraps! Apparently thats what I thought
quilting was about! I finally made my first scrap quilt about 1982. The
hard
way! It is not a work of art! I had no instruction, just cut up squares
of
scraps and outgrown kids clothes, stitched them all together in long rows
and then stitched the long rows together, layered it with batting and an
old
sheet and attempted to manuever it through my sewing machine to stitch in
the ditch. It's not something I show off, but it sure holds memories! It
was
a long painstaking process and almost finished my life as a quilter. Then
I
was introduced to a rotary cutter, strip piecing and all the modern
miracle
ideas for quilting and now I can't seem to get enough. I want to try it
all
!

I am currently finishing my third denim (blue jean scrap) quilt since
Nov. I
did a baby quilt in Nov. and sewed several xmas presents that were not
quilts. I'm looking for ideas for a wedding quilt for my biological DS #1
who is getting married in the summer??? (No date yet!)

My husband is a knife maker and together we operate an online webstore
for
his knives and knife making supplies. We also have a web hosting
business. I
am currently looking at ideas for a quilters gift site (any ideas would
be
welcome??) I do t-shirt imprinting, specializing in quilters themes and
knifemakers sayings.
I also do the leatherwork to go with my husbands knives. What I want to
try
next is button making from the scraps of exotic wood from his knife
handles.... Kind of like quilting..... using up scraps??

I don't post on here often, but when I'm feeling cut off from the world
( We
live an hour from anywhere in a village of 400 people and I don't have a
car
on the road right now!) reading the posts makes me feel like I'm still
part
of the world.

Happy New Year to All !
Great quilting in 2005

But,

while we learn a bit about them, they don't get to know us very easily.

G'day Elda. I also volunteer at my DDs school, especially in the
reading/literacy program. You are usually "attached" to your
child's/children's class and with "reading" you sit and listen to each child
read for about 5-10 minutes. With the early grades the amount of time it
takes to get through a "see spot run" type book. Not sure about the elder
grades. Depending on how many volunteers you have, you can see between 10
and 25 kids. With my daughter's first year at school, I formed a close bond
with 90% of the kids in the class - they still run up and give me hugs now.
In 2004 I helped with the Literacy side where again you usually are attached
to your child's class. It was really like a teacher's helper - assisting
with words, guiding the kids through their learning - sentences, spelling,
etc and some fun games. Also helping out the challenged kids. Again a
lovely bond with new kids, and a deepening of the ones I'd met in first
year.

I can't wait to help out in 2005 with both girls classes, if I get the
chance.

And make quilts for Ronald McDonald House.

And help out anywhere else I can!

My name is Chipper. That's because I was chosen "Miss Congeniality" in the
Miss American pageant in 1984, 1994 and 2004. I am blonde, 5'10" and a
perfect size 4. My husband is perfect and so are my 2.3 children.
Our QIs a one kitty who is obedient and even cleans up his own hurls
and a Best of Show dog who runs the vacuum daily without even being
offered
a treat.
I have written several best sellers, won the Pulitzer prize, do 100
push-ups 3 times daily and have just chosen the decorator for the
chauffeur's summer cottage.
My UFO is an original quilted silk lining for this year's new mink
coat.
I am doing it in Celtic dodecaheraoctagonal hieroglyphics. The lawsuit for
my posing nude for McCalls magazine is only slightly exaggerated, and DH
thinks my toying with the pool boy is just sooo cute. Chipper (with a
little help from Polly)

Hello -

I'm Brenda in central MD. I've been a lurker for a while & thought it
was time to introduce myself with everyone else. I've been quilting
for about 15 years mostly while staying home with my kids. Enjoy
making gifts for family. I think most appreciate the work that has
gone into the project. I'm married with a son who is a senior in high
school and looking forward to going to college in the fall (mom isn't
even thinking about that yet!) and a daughter who is a sophmore in
high school & enjoys playing field hockey. My husband & son are very
active in the volunteer fire service. I just recently started a part
time job at the branch library which I am really enjoying but does cut
into my quilting time.
I have been apart of the local Thimbleberries group and enjoying
getting together and exchanging ideas. I have participated in a number
of swaps including a baseball swap which was fun even if my Orioles
didn't do quite so well.
Have enjoyed all the tips everyone gives and have gotten alot of great
ideas from this group - Thanks!
