I had my tonsils taken out when I was 3...I didn't keep them, or should I

Shona with one tonsil in NZ

Every time someone looks down my throat they ask if I'd had my tonsils
out! No... They are just naturally tiddly, which medical people find
odd, considering the numbers of throat infections I've had! When they
look at the notes they ask why DIDN'T they take them out? Because, at
the age they would normally have taken them out (7-8 here in the UK), I
was living in Malta, where they did no surgery that wasn't necessary for
life preservation!

I'm having a real good time like I am."

The specialist want a whole nother set of blood tests done: all my
counts were normal when I left hospital, and he wants to be sure that
they still are, which is ok... He also wants a nuclear scan, whatever
that is! So I go to the vampire tomorrow (I can get that done in the
local cottage hospital), but have to wait for them to send me a scan
appointment. I am on the waiting list for the op, and that will happen
'in the new year...' So, while that is later than I wanted, I can relax
and get on with Christmas planning, knowing they are not going to yank
me off and chop me up at the least convenient time of the year!

The specialist was pleased with me for continuing to lose weight, even
though it is very slow - makes it easier to do the op if there is less
blubber to wade through! He is concerned that with the state of my gall
bladder and the bile duct on the last scans that once they see it they
might have to go for the bigger op, but I'm ok with that. Better out
than in! As I told him, I'm unlikely ever to want to wear a bikini
again, so the odd 5" scar will not bother me! It won't be any worse
than the appendix scar I already have.

He said, re the weight loss, I suppose you are going to blame me for
needing a whole new wardrobe? I said, No, I never blame other people
for that - it was just nice to have a valid excuse for a change!

Now, to drag this back ON topic for a moment, I am off to the treadle to
sew a couple more Christmas stockings: these with high heels and fancy
buttons, like Victorian ladies boots! Watch for them on the web site
later...

I got a letter yesterday morning. Oh, goody, I thought, this will be my
appointment for my nuclear scan!

Nah... It's the date fer me op! 22 December - first Monday of the
school holidays and three days before Christmas! Sheesh! They don't
half know how to bugger you about, the NHS! I don't dare say no, coz it
could be months before I get another one!

DH said I'd better be sure to write down the instructions for cooking
the Christmas dinner for him!

I dare say the scan appointment will come through sometime before the
op...
