caught still in my nightgown at 9 am (on topic)

I have developed a new pattern to my day which was working well until
someone rings the doorbell.

I am out of bed by 6 am and read the newspaper while eating breakfast.
By 7:00 I am ready to start my day but the men folk in my house are
using all the hot water.

Lately I have been coming to the computer and reading the newsgroup
until those men folk are out of the house. This works well as long as
I watch the clock.

This week there have been more postings and private emails to answer
than usual. Yesterday the doorbell rang at 9. I forgot I wasn't
dressed and answered the door! Fortunately I had on my best robe and
the neighbor was in her jugging outfit so she didn't look too good
herself.

I have a reputation as an early riser. I am often in my quilt studio
by 7 am. I think I better go back to dressing before I sit down at the
computer. You guys are too long winded for just a quick look.

I prefer to take my shower after doing the daily housework, so I've often
gotten caught myself! I keep swearing that won't happen again, but then it
does. LOL

Given my sleeping habits, it's a good thing I dress before leaving the
bedroom.

I prefer to shower before bed.

I've had a few days when the creative juices started flowing at the crack of
dawn as I drifted, in my nightgown, coffee in hand, into my
workroom............I then shower about 11pm, put on a CLEAN nightgown and
go to bed. I have found that the shower and clean nightgown routine is a
good one since it saves having to pick all those little snippettes of thread
off the sheets later. But then, I only live with a cat who thinks it's very
convenient to live with somebody who is sewing in her nightgown all day.
This makes for great burrowing into napping spots in an unmade bed for him
and seems oblivious to the threads occasionally stuck to his coat.

I spent many, MANY years rolling out of bed at 3am to get myself and single
mom household pulled together for the day so I could be on the job by 5:30,
8 hour work days usually stretching to 12 and slipping my passion for sewing
and gardening into the little time left in each week. Always trying to look
on the upside of being disabled and no longer able to work I've found a
great perk to my present condition. If there's a knock on the door at
anytime on "nightgown" day I answer and A: I can peek around the door and
say (with a rather pathetic tone), no it's not a very good day for me, why
don't I call you later, and scurry back to my sewing with a cat who
swallowed the canary grin B: It's a good friend who loves and accepts my
ever honing of eccentric ways and they slip into the door and head for the
coffee with no comment whatsoever and settle in for a chat or C: answer the
really the stupid question of "aren't you dressed yet?" (similar to "are you
hurt?" after falling and with a resounding thud on the ice) with the answer
of; "No, I haven't done laundry for two weeks and with my Dr's appointment
coming up Thursday and I'm saving my last pair of clean panties for that."

If I'm at home I'm in my pj's. Something about wearing bra's. No they
don't hang around my waist...yet. But it's my home and I'm going to be
comfortable in it. So whether it's 9am or 4pm pj's it is. Don't care who
comes to the door. My mother-in-law is just horrified by this. She is up
showered and dressed by 7am every day. Even if I go out in the middle of
day as soon as I come home I'm back in my pj's.

Mom was one to clean house all day-in her nightgown.
After growing up with that I am up and dressed pretty
early myself.

Same here. Being home & disabled, I've earned the right to stay in my
jammies whenever I want. I only get dressed for company or to leave the
house. If I do get dressed, and don't go out, the family asks what I'm all
dressed up for. I'm making up for all those years I worked 65+ hours a
week.

The creative juices flow better when I am comfortable & unencumbered by the
restrictions of street clothing. You bring up a good point, too, about how
others view you. When I am well enough to go to a social gathering, all
dressed, etc., then the in-laws think I'm 'all better'.

You don't get 'all better' from Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis,
Rheumatoid Arthritis, a herniated disc & connective tissue Disease. Never
mind the 3 days it will take me to recover from being there, that is if no
one there is sick.

Also, no apologies or guilt, and no explanations...they wouldn't remember
anyway.

There are so many comfy casual/lounge clothes out now I
wonder why folks just don't hang around the house in those?

Amen. Me too. I take a shower every day, as soon as I've done my
morning routine and the house work. I have several different
sweatsuits - without the elastic at the bottom of the pants. In
winter, I wear the matching sweatshirt and pants. In summer, I just
wear the pants and a T-shirt - or my flannel knock-around pants and a
T-shirt. I have several T-shirts of places we've been, which look
nice so when the mailman comes to the door with squishies, I dont'
look TOO shabby. Just comfy.

I also wear a pair of wool camp socks around the house, as my feet get
cold, we have tile floors and the AC is always on high for the rest of
the family!
