Default I found one - fake or dyed Sugilite!

In the famous word of Bill the Cat: ACK!!!!

That first one is definitely NOT sugilite! No, no, no, no!!! Here's some
real stuff from a reputable dealer for comparison:

I'm with you, Kathy. Not something you'd want to wear against a white
blouse OR out in the rain!

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that I was 100% sure that someone
was hard at work faking or enhancing Sugilite, in order to make some
Quick cash on this rare and pretty expensive stone. Today when
browsing eBay for something else, I came across these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...088&item=81166
66755

Here is some unenhanced sugilite, just to compa

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...89&item=491128
8666&rd=1&tc=photo

I'm not sure if this stuff is real suglite, or if we're looking at
dyed howlite - either way, I wouldn't want to wear it against a white
blouse. :-)

That is a really crappy-looking fake! I think dyed howlite would look a lot
better--at least it would look more like a natural stone. To me, that stuff
looks like bad polymer clay, though of course polymer clay doesn't have
anything like the weight of stone. I have done much better polymer faux
sugilite myself, just for the challenge of it.

Blech - the unenhanced stuff is so much prettier anyway.

Those dark veins are certainly suspicious...

That is a really pretty stone. I don't think I've ever seen it before.
