Default Basting gun problem solved

The last few times I tried to use my basting gun, I got very frustrated,
because the tacks were breaking. The directions say that that can happen
when the tacks dry out, and they suggest putting them in a plastic bag
with a few drops of water. That didn't do it for me. Yesterday, I
decided to put the tacks in a glass of water while I got my quilt
sandwiched. It worked! I broke a few tacks, but not very many. It seems
to be less strain on my hands to use the tacker than using safety pins.

Thanks for posting this. I bought 2 bags of 1500 tacks on clearance
recently and I may need to do the water soak myself.

I know that the tacks have gotten a bad rap, but I am such a "lazy" quilter,
that I love using it, and rarely pin quilts anymore. You just have to be
careful removing the tacks. I found a tack remover by searching google, and
had it shipped for under $10. Nancy

There is a tack remover other than just scissors? I didn't know that.
Now I've gotta go looking for it. It might be my mom's next quilt
related gift.

Yes. It works well, too -- minimizes the chance of accidentally cutting
your quilt fabric. See it at
http://store.quilting-warehouse.com/...73/082768.html.
I've never ordered from this source; it was near the top of the listing
when I googled basting tack remover. I bought mine at either Hobby Lobby
or Joann's
