Don't know exactly what was suggested for via ferrata, but there can be
huge fall factors involved and I wouldn't ever use a friction knot to arrest a fall. |

the standard 'via ferrata' equipment is not 'safe' on vertical steel
cables (because of the huge fall factor involved: only a meter of safety rope 'breaks' a fall of a few metres and causes injury) in practice, it is more a matter of psychology? people click in their standard equipment on steep/vertical cables on exposed passages and climb without falling then two additional friction knots can make sure you 'arrest a fall' within a few feet, instead of falling to the end of the steel cable first on via ferrata there are other safety factors as well and speed is one ... (since every knot takes time, every time you switch from cable-anchor-point to cable-anchor-point ... so these friction knots will come in handy, only on very difficult or overhanging passages ) knot recommendation, Ben |
