how did you lose so much size??? hmmm
ok, what did size sqs did you start with?
from this page....
http://www.patchpieces.com/Flyinggeese.html
....to get 6x8inch finished flying geese you start with
1 x 9 1/4" sq for the main part of the FG
and
4 x 6 7/8" sqs for the 'wings' on those FGs.
if, with those cut accurately and seams sewn the right size, they still turn
out too small, you'd have to reduce the seams by a thread or two.
i only mark the cutting lines and eyeball the sewing lines.
if you werent so darn far away i'd come round and help you with the assembly
line to make up a mess of those wee honkers in no time at all.
i did 150 in one weekend on my own. assembly line one bit til i got sick of
cutting or sewing or pressing, then i'd switch to a different bit til
eventually they were all finished and ready to fly north for my winter, lol.
so what size sqs did you start with?
honk honk!!

I tried that method once. I have a real math block and just could not
figure it out. Sounds like a great method, though. But my 6x8 flying
geese ended up being 4x7!

got any black that would work to extend what you've got on hand?
maybe as a divider/filler between the FGs so they fit across the edge of
what you've got there now.
black is a neutral too, lol. be sure it is prewashed tho, eh.
seems to me black would go with the other colours in there now.
just my dos centavos,

Okay I slept on it last night and after reading the replies that
popped up overnight I have decided that I will do blue and green
flying geese with strips of red in between.

I printed off a couple of templates to get an idea of what size to
make and think I will make them 3 x 6.

I would love to go shopping but DH has just spent 4 weeks off work
and 2 of those are without pay. He will get paid, but that will be
when the insurance is paid, and I want this top done now so I can get
it basted (ugh) and quilted.

I have been making this quilt for DH's cousin but have run out of the
centre 'garden' fabric.

http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...53289228BoQaTR

I have about 20" of each of the other 3 fabrics left as well as
another piece of the red that is about 50" long.
I want to add more length to it and need some suggestions on ways to
do this.

Help please... anyone...?

Its Warm Wishes Carolyn, that a lot of people here say is quick and
easy and it is just that, quick and easy. I can't take any credit for
anything.

hey, Irene,
round here you dont really need to have the brain in gear much.
just ask and someone will know or point ya to where to find the info
required about heck, anything quilty.

that is the formula for FGs. noth'n fancy bout that really.
add 1.25" to finished length of FG for big sq x 1.
add 7/8" to finished width of FG for smaller sqs x 4.
easy peasy.

i'd so love to return to usa but i'm not too sure after the last trip that
they'll let me into or out of for that matter again. : /
i do appreciate the invite tho.
hugz,
jeanne
just recall'n the day of cut'n, sew'n, press'n gazillions of FGs in Tacoma

Thanks, Jeanne! I see now that I cut the larger piece too small! Why
oh why do I get such a math block sometimes...

I'm going to use your measurements and try again. I *really* want to
make a flying geese scrap quilt - I have a picture of one hanging on my
mirror for inspiration! With any luck, and your help & hints maybe I'll
finally get it right!

PS wish you could come over!

I'm around, but just never when you are. I'm working on that, and it'll
help when it starts warming up here.
