Default scissors...

All I know about those applique scissors is that they are strictly a
right-handed item!

can anyone comment on the "pelican" type embroidery scissors? do you really
get a close cut with minimal risk of cutting the threads?

or are there other types of scissors or tricks that work well to cut close?

I have them and I love them. Mine are bent to get over the hoop when it's
in use on my embroidery machine. I am right handed and I have not tried to
use them left handed, but will next time and see if it makes a difference.

I have two pair of Gingher scissors that are intended for reaching over a
hoop rim to cut close to the stitching. One has a sort of duck bill blade on
the bottom, one pair has sharp points on both blades. I use the duck billed
ones for trimming the Yorkie. The sharp pointed ones are good for opening a
button hole. Didn't like either pair for machine sewing inside a hoop. I
always go back to my tiny, curved-bladed extremely sharp embroidery scissors
for that. Probably only because that's just what works best for me. Polly

Speaking as another left-handed Sandy, I noticed that right away, too!
