In a WHEELCHAIR.

oh yes, absolutely. Make sure the errands involve tall counters and narrow
aisles.

Heck, make the stores buildings with one, very small step to get in.

I've been researching it for the past 4 years, after discovering that the
Pill may have been the huge contributor to my eventual hysterectomy. The
Pill is now formulated to stop ovulation, but taken in large doeses (uses
as a "morning after" pill) can cause miscarriage. I wish I'd never taken
it, knowing what I do now.

I feel that way about the IUD. They keep claiming that the new ones are so
much safer than the old Dalcon Shield, but try telling that to someone who
sat in the ER in a pool of blood several times for hours on end after it
became embedded. It took surgery to remove it, after a year and a half of
fighting military doctors who told me that the bleeding was a hormonal
thing.

Gee, I hope our resident lurker is reading this. Maybe he'll be grossed out
and go away.

I know it is. The way it could be made meaningful, would be if straight
couples, which is to say the majority, would adopt it as the preferred
marriage contract.

In a way, I think the first line of protection would be for a great legal
mind to come up with a widely accepted legal contract that parallels the
marriage contract. Something that is a domestic contract that might be
nick-named "marriage contract". And then what non-gays could do to

support
gays would be to voluntarily enter into such a contract also.

But see -- that's "separate but equal" -- like "colored drinking

fountain".
Isn't it.

Haw! Well, they endanger the STORE OWNER. Once I see the step, anyway. (with
no back door ramp)

(I meant store, not stores, BTW)

Individual means undividable, the smallest unit. The isolated unit. Rugged
"Individualism" ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Bush was a coward. He got out of serving his country in Vietnam because
Daddy

pulled some strings.

First, not everyone who was drafted ended up in Vietnam. And not everyone
who joined the National Guard got to stay safe at home. Several hundred NG
troops died in Vietnam, along with "regular" soldiers. It's still service to
one's country and troops assignments aren't always optional.

Some responses inline:

Kandice stated:

This was a lie perpetrated by our media and by the Swift Boat people (a

group formed after Kerry started running for president, BTW).

I've been really really good and stayed out of most of the politics stuff
(my Momma would be proud LOL) but I have to say something here.

My guy, Mike, was also in Vietnam, in the Navy, serving on the same rivers
where Kerry was. He was a CPO at the time, piloting a PBR (a somewhat
smaller boat than the swiftboats, but sturdier too). He's read Kerry's
accounts, both during the Winter Soldier hearings (I'll be a lady and not
repeat what he really said about that) and his more recent claims. Mike is
absolutely disgusted with Kerry and his claims, says enormous parts of it
are downright lies and much is secondhand hearsay. Mike was awarded 2
Purple Hearts during his FULL 18-month tour (he almost volunteered for a
2nd tour but they needed him elsewhere), neither of which he ever had to
write letters for to insist he'd earned them. He also received a bronze
star and later a silver star. (He gets all bashful about it, too. LOL)

It looks like more of a difference of opinion to me - I want actual facts.
I can understand how this would sway your personal vote, and the votes of
people who know you and Mike, but I need more proof than that. I am
inclined not to believe either side of the media here.
But I can't ignore that there *are* two sides - there are media stories on
both sides, and there are real people (Mike included) backing up one side or
another. So my point here is that I am not going to sit in the camp of
either side until I have proof. The Swift Boat people were proven wrong.
Just how wrong they were remains to be seen.

Oh, and Kerry was the one who initially brought up the whole Vietnam
thing. He'd have been a lot wiser to just have said nothing. But then, he
didn't have much of a Senate record to campaign on instead. None of his
pro-veteran bills ever passed (he sent up 7 over 20 years). Only two bills
with his name on them ever passed and they were rather trivial.

Well, half the country will disagree with you there. His Senate record is
liberal. Conservatives will say that he has no record, but what they really
mean is that he has a record they don't agree with.
And it's really so much more complicated than saying he "has no record".
There are reasons for what he did. And his Senate record is nothing
compared to the absolute complete mess Bush's entire political record is.

Mike's vehemence while I was trying to decide was one of several reasons
why I couldn't vote for Kerry. His incredibly vague spending plans
(emphasis on spending) was another. I wanted hard numbers and never could
find much of anything that actually made sense. I could have actively
voted against Bush, but the more I read the less I wanted to do that. For
the record (but I think I said this in another post) I couldn't vote FOR
either of them in the end. sigh So I left that part of my ballot blank.

That I can understand. I can't get behind Kerry completely, but Bush is
infinitely worse, IMO.

Who cares who the president's wife is? She doesn't legislate.

LOL, yeah, and Hillary just stayed home knitting. Please don't fool
yourself, first ladies have enormous influence and can gather up quite a
bit of power for themselves.
The trick is to use it very quietly. (Nancy Reagan was a pro, so was
Barbara Bush.) They don't have to directly legislate in order to DO
anything. I felt kinda sorry for Teresa. I think she really didn't want to
be in that position, but she had to have known that from the start. Seeing
her kept making me feel so sad, because I really liked John Heinz and
think HE would've made a marvelous president. He was one of the first
people I ever got to vote for. sniffle

All right - I understand that, but the who the first lady will be doesn't
influence my vote whatsoever - especially this year. I'm not voting for the
first lady - I'm voting for president. The first lady may have a lot of
behind the scenes work, but she is still not the president.
