4th Annual Shades of Halloween Swap REPOST
We currently have 13 swappers! It's not too late to sign up, but July 31 is
the cut-off date to join the swap. Remember, I will be unable to respond to emails until next week, due to a week-long stash raid - I mean, trip to Scotland. However, my email box will still recieve your emails, and I'll respond when I get back. If you think you have signed up, but didn't get a note from me saying you were signed up, you AREN'T! There was one quilter who asked for more info, didn't see the rules on the ng, but I never heard back if she wanted to join. If this was you, you are not signed up yet. Here is a reposting of the Official Rules: You must e-mail me privately to sign up - posting here to the newsgroup is not good enough because of all the goblins in the servers. After you e-mail me at MamaBoo at GriffinsFlight dot com , I will send you a confirmation e-mail with my mailing address. If you think you are signed up, but have not had a cheery, personal email from me, you are *not* signed up!! 1) We are swapping FEs (18"x11" approx - see Note below) of abstract or geometric fabric in Halloween colors. The fabric must have at least 2 colors - no Tone on Tones (ToTs) or solids. This is NOT a novelty fabric swap. There should be nothing recognizable in the design of the fabric - no pumpkins, Fall leaves bats, skeletons, or bunnies. The following are acceptable: wild squiggles, squares, triangles, lines, blotches, etc. as long as it has at least 2colors in a Halloween theme. Halloween colors include orange, black, purple and bright green. These are not the only colors you can use, but if the fabric makes you think "Christmas" when you look at it, it's not right for this swap. 2) We are swapping sets of 8 FEs. You may send 2 sets, if you use DIFFERENT fabrics for each set. I cannot guarantee you will get back 2 completely different sets, but I'll try. So, you send me 8 FEs of fabric, and you get back 8 FEs of fabric, all different. 3) All fabric must be 100% cotton, quilting-weight. I don't care where you get it, but if it is thin enough to read newspaper through, I'll send it back to you, unswapped. Please, be reasonable! If you wouldn't make your favorite aunty a quilt with it, don't send it to the swap, either. Assuming, of course, your favorite aunty loves Halloween fabrics. :-) 4) I prefer to swap washed, ironed (but NOT starched) fabric. If for some reason, you cannot wash your fabric before you send it, please mark *each* FE with a note that says "not washed"!!!!! I will be washing my fabric, and I live in a smoke-free home. I do have a dog, but he is not allowed free access to fabric, and I take precautions to ensure no hair gets on swaps. Your fabric will be fondled, at least by me, and if you are very lucky and have good taste, Giles and Spike will give it a fondle, too! However, all fabric will be kept in excellent condition. Questions? Email me at mamaboo at griffinsflight dot com -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply |

The complete rules were not in the last post. Here they are!
You must e-mail me privately to sign up - posting here to the newsgroup is not good enough because of all the goblins in the servers. After you e-mail me at MamaBoo at GriffinsFlight dot com , I will send you a confirmation e-mail with my mailing address. If you think you are signed up, but have not had a cheery, personal email from me, you are *not* signed up!! Sign up by July 31st, 2004. If you are not signed up by then, it's too late! Remember, while I will be sending confirmation e-mails back to you as quickly as possible, I will be raiding Jo in Scotland's stash while I'm in the UK from July 19-26. (Shh! Don't tell her!) I'll check my mail and get back to you as soon as I can when I return. Here are the Official Rules: 1) We are swapping FEs (18"x11" approx - see Note below) of abstract or geometric fabric in Halloween colors. The fabric must have at least 2 colors - no Tone on Tones (ToTs) or solids. This is NOT a novelty fabric swap. There should be nothing recognizable in the design of the fabric - no pumpkins, Fall leaves bats, skeletons, or bunnies. 5) Send your fabric squares in a plastic bag, or other wrapping (I see saran-type wrap a lot or the new Press N Seal), to keep it safe on its journey, and enclose your name and address in the wrapping, in case of envelope rippage. Use a separate baggie for each set, please. Send a self-addressed envelope with return postage (not metered!!!) in with your swap. 6) Non-USA participants email me for mailing instructions. 7) Mail your package so it arrives in my hands by August 13 (Friday the13th - perfect!), and I will mail the swaps back out by August 17th. 8) Email me privately to sign up and get my mailing address. MamaBoo at GriffinsFlight dot com 9) If you sign up, but find you cannot participate, please send me a note to let me know not to expect anything from you. Stuff happens, no big. But a note will give me a heads up, so I don't sit by the mailbox, harassing Alton everyday. :-) NOTE: How big is a FE? Well, a FQ is roughly 18"x22", assuming the fabric is 44" wide before washing. A FE (Fat Eighth) is half of that, cut so the 18" side stays the same, and the other side is 11". I like to fold a yard in half, matching selvedges, so it is 36" by 22", then I cut along the fold, dividing the piece into long half-yards. Then, I measure along the selvedge edge to 18", and cut through both layers of fabric. You now have 4 FQs. Cut each of those in half to measure 18"x11". Yardage needed: for 8 FEs, you need 1 yard of standard width fabric. I like to buy 1 1/2 yards, so I get to keep the extra. If your LQS cuts yards at 35 1/2", buy extra so everyone gets a properly-sized piece of fabric. If you prefer to send 8 different FEs, that's fine. Or mix and match. As long as you send 8 FEs in a Halloween-colored abstract or geometric print. Remember, if you send more than one set of FEs, you MUST use a different set of fabrics. Questions?
