Default Quilting designs

This is just a tip I read recently, for those who, like me, find it very
difficult to think of appropriate quilting designs.
The author of the book I was re-reading (on kaleidoscopes, but that's
irrelevant!), said that she often finds her inspiration from fabric
itself! Not necessarily fabric she is using, she just rootles through
her stash looking at the patterns on them and thinking 'quilting' rather
than piecing. Works like a charm, she said.
So, I'm passing it on. I've just done more or less what she suggested,
on a kaleidoscope, and it really does look very nice. I've known about
quilting from the back, using the design on the backing fabric, but had
never thought (or read) about using fabric designs themselves. Thinking
on it more, I've realised that taking all styles of fabric into account,
one could get ideas for free-motion, motifs, all-over patterns ...

What a good idea, Pat! I'll have to begin rootling, too.
