Incandescent lighting is a fairly inefficient source of heat. The
amount of heat put out by a 100W bulb is far less than that put out by
even 100W of electrical heater. And electric heat is generally less
efficient than gas or oil, or even coal. Switching to fluorescent
bulbs is an actual *energy* savings, not just a savings on an
electrical bill.

If you want to believe this, be my guest!!

Hey, all I know is what my electric and gas bills tell me.

When we put in fluorescent bulbs, out electric usage went down, and
out gas usage didn't go up. (Actual usage, not just $$.)
Consistently, not just for a month or two; compared on a month by
month basis.

Which just plain silly.

I don't know. We put a new light fixture in the kitchen yesterday, it
takes 5 bulbs. DH bought a pack of 5 60W bulbs at the same time.

After installation, I was at the kitchen table underneath it working
on kitting up a new project and some small ones to take on my trip
this week.

After 15 minutes, I was on my way to Wally's World to get 25W bulbs,
as besides the need for sunglasses, I was roasting from the heat
output...

The 25W bulbs put out more than enough light, I think fluorescents
would be too much. It was BRIGHT in there until we dropped to the
lower wattage.
