Default Openwork Sweater Pattern Request (Crochet or Knit)

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a easy
openwork short sleeved sweater pattern. I am more familiar with crochet
but wouldn't mind trying to knit one though.

I'd like free, but if it's a good pattern I'd pay a little for it.

I'm between a 14 and 16 US dress size, I usually like XL tops (I like
them a little loose).

I was thinking of doing this in black with a tank top underneath. I live
in Florida so long sleeves are not wanted.

I prefer a cotton or soft, washable yarn that's not expensive as I am
not rich. 8-) I am not yet good at substituting yarn so I thought I'd
mention my yarn preference.

Thank you all in advance!

Wendy,

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but you might try checking the
free pattern sites at www.knitty.com and www.elann.com. Also Cascade has
free patterns listed at www.straw.com, and www.lionbrand.com has some also.
If you can find something in there that is of the style you are looking for,
you can work with finding a substitute yarn that is of the same gauge.
Also, if you have a library nearby, I have found that to be a good source of
pattern books.

Thanks Noreen! I've been looking too and came up empty handed...but I
will continue as well. It's nice when people help you out.

Hi Karen,
I looked on LionBrand and Googled, but didn't know about those others. I
will look tonight!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Wendy, I just recalled another short sleeved, openwork jacket/sweater
pattern that I've seen recently. If you look at
http://www.justonemorerow.com/9/cat9.htm , Jill Vosburg has a couple of them
that might be along the lines of what you're looking for (specifically,
check out the Lightening Lace, Drifting Dreams and FlyAway Free -- there is
another picture of the Flyaway Free at
http://www.onefineyarn.com/Merchant2...o de=jill_fly).
This is not a free pattern, it's a for-sale pattern through yarn shops and
mail order, but I do recall seeing the Lightening Lace in a past issue of
Cast-On magazine.

Hope that helps!

Elann.com has a free pattern that goes with cotton yarn they have on
sale. The free pattern can be printed off their website. I don't know
if it is anyting like what you are looking for but it does seem to come
in the right size. I don't know how you would rate the cost of the
yarn - but it is on sale.
