Default Dollhouses for boys?

Has anyone ever built a dollhouse for a boy? Are the cabins more for
boys? How were they decorated?

How about building a garage "dollhouse"? Lots of scale model cars and
race cars available in various sizes - could use something like that as
a basis.

There are a number of nice farmhouse dh kits. Paired with a barn kit (HBS
used to carry one) or the stable set available at holiday time at Sam's and
some Breyer horses or other scale farm animals & tractors, trucks, etc, a
whole family of boys could play away many rainy afternoons.

Cabins are good, like a hunting/fishing retreat, a period log house,
or you could go with a scale clubhouse, a cowboy's bunkhouse, a
section of a ship, (any era) a castle, US Cavalry fort, Indian
longhouse, submarine, police station, warehouse, DPW garage,
motorcycle shop, hardware store, sporting goods store, a woodworking
shop with miniature hand and power tools...is that a good start?

I sell a lot of minis to men and boys. The most popular items are those for
a gas station or garage, fishing, and hunting. You could also do roomboxes
with "male" themes. I saw a terrific basketball locker room.

Another question - do boys actually like to play with dollhouses? My
stepson, who is 9 loves playing with playmobile, which makes me think
he'd like playing with a dollhouse, but if it's a "dollhouse" he
probably wouldn't like it.

I couldn't keep my brothers out of mine. From what I've seen, most boys
like playing with buildings. They can be used with trucks, or with
action figures. As long as the appearance of the house isn't overly pink
or ruffly, I think most boys would play with one during the action-toy
imaginitive stage.
