Yeah, but none of my quilts have noses. I planned it that way.
So at least they are not picking their noses!

But do you actually want to make one? Is fear of those bitty pieces holding
you back or does it just seem like its not worth the effort in your book?

That's a dangerous kind of statement to put out to this group. Next thing
you know, you're going to get a flood of quilts with noses.

My Jinny Beyer quilt kit "Stained Glass Star". It will be my first
Lone-Star-type of quilt assembly. I keep putting it off because I don't
want to ruin the beautiful, and I mean gorgeous!, fabrics. Tell you what,
let's have a party when I finally START the thing, instead of when I get it
FINISHED! Who's on board??

I think folks would be less intimidated by applique' if they had "The
Method" that suits them best right there handy without going thru some
techniques that don't work for them. Me.... I love freezer paper on the
bottom and hand basted seam allowances. Some think this is too
time-consuming, but for me it is perfect accuracy, perfect fit and then
I can hand or machine it down and I am very pleased with the results.
Some think this method is too much bother and prefer needle turn. If I
had to do needle turn applique' I would never applique' again- promise!
I absolutely cannot get a smooth edge with needle turn and it is not
adaptable for machine work. And those wild-women who do needle turn
without cutting out the shape beforehand and just cut a couple of inches
in front of their stitches- sheer INSANITY! But that's just IMHO.

I dont think any quilt pattern scares me as I am a skilled sewer. However
there are some techniques I am not ready for just yet--Lone Star, bargello,
paper piecing, watercolor. Eventually I will get there when the time is
right for me to experiment.

Howdy!
Challenge: squaring up at the end, just before the binding.
I have to be extra careful to not stretch the outer edge/border
when quilting (handquilting makes it too easy to stretch the edge);
I think that stretching that border while quilting
is what makes so many quilts "wave",
esp. evident when they are hung up.
Challenge: those older Dbl.Wddng. Ring tops that have
a "B cup" or larger; people keep bringing those things out of the
closet to be quilted. "There's a reason your mama (grandma/aunt/
cousin/sister/neighbor/dearly-beloved/uncle) didn't Finish that quilt:
they didn't want to deal w/ all that mess in the middle!" VBG
But I know how to handle it. ;-)
Challenge: quilting a top that doesn't have enough allowance,
certainly not the standard ¼" which I'd prefer, on the outer edge.
Sometimes the binding will just have to cover a bit of the pattern.
When I Finished my first DWR (queen-size), I took it to work
w/ me (at the quilt shop); several ladies exclaimed, "You HAND pieced that?
HOW!!!!??????!!!" Well, hand piecing makes easy work of curved pieces;
hand piecing makes the "fudge factor" incredibly simple. g And I didn't
KNOW it was supposed to be hard to piece curves! It's not.
But scary? Nope. Not afraid of quilting. Never was. ;-D
And color is a cinch!

See? Told you I wasn't scared: I sent you your first one! G

Hope your new home has plenty of room for your annual
quilting party; think of how easily the group could complete
a quilt for your new home!!!

I can answer this for everyone on here. The one that scares them is the

one
they have to make for me. That's why I don't have many. I'll soon need

a
housewarming quilt (or two.... or three... or....)

That's a challenge I'm currently facing right now. Or not facing -- I'm over
here at the computer checking out the newsgroup instead of dealing with that
DD cup Double Wedding Ring. Guess I'd better trudge back over there. It's
not going to quilt itself, no matter HOW much I wish it would!
