Default Happy ending for Joann coupon.

Linda, I think you got lucky on that one. Most of the coupons say (in fine
print) that they cannot be used for irons and several other things. They can
be used on sale items, but not at the sale price, if using the 50% off, the
price reverts to original.
I'm not perpetually mad a Joann's. it's a good place to buy batting, books,
etc especially using the coupons. But that company does have some quirks,
doesn't it?

Today I went to Joann's to buy a new iron. Up until yesterday my Rowenta
was fine, until Sugar (super QI Kitty) jumped on the ironing board and

down
it went. Of course it was on a tile floor. Very ugly and the iron was

only
about 1 year old. I dug out my 50% coupon and picked out a new one $25
after the 50%. I got to the register and the cashier said it was not good
on irons. Here we go! I was in there on Saturday and bought a travel
Rowenta and used that coupon. The manager was called and I told him very
nicely of the situation and he said let it go. I was a very happy

customer
and told him that I shop here alot.
That was my experience with the coupon. Linda

We have a discount store near here that sells refurbished Rowentas for about
$25. My Bernina still works ok, but I am sometimes tempted.

Yippee for you! I would buy a Rowenta from JoAnn's in a minute if I got a
50% off coupon that would work on it. At full price, I'm choosing to

wait
til I really need it. The 25.00 Black and Decker just keeps on steamin'
anyway.

You are certainly right. I would never have tried to buy it if I knew it
wasn't on the sale. I guess I should wear my reading glasses when reading
the fine print. We just have to learn how to play the game. :-)

Sam's Club has a Rowenta iron that my best friend bought when her JoAnns
Rowenta bit the dust (She never empties the water out and so it started
leaking). She likes it as well as the first one and she paid a lot less.

Me too, I have a B&D iron, which works fine. But I guess I haven't even
ever seen a more
expensive iron to see what the difference is. I could truly be missing

out
on something here!
I thought irons just got hot, and then you pressed them down on fabric to
make it flat. ;^)
Hey, maybe ignorance is bliss!

One thing I do miss with my new iron that I had on my old 40-year old iron
that conked out
is the ability to turn of the steam at will. When I use spray starch I

like
to use a hot DRY iron.
But this new iron thinks it's smarter than me, so it won't let me pick

when
to steam or not -- it picks for me.

Um, Ann, you could try not putting water in it?

Seriously, I had no idea what a difference an iron could make. Now, my
Rowenta is heavy, but I never get tired using it. It does the work for me.
I have never scorched ANYTHING since I started using it. The temperature
stays constant. My model, which I don't think they make anymore, has a
removable water reservoir so it makes it easy to empty out. Great steam
when I need it.

What I am searching for is an older iron with no steam holes at all. There
are some circumstances when doing crafts or just iron on interfacing, that
the indentations from the holes shows on the opposite side. I sure didn't
think an iron like that would be so hard to find.

Me too! I am thinking about that "crafty" iron, not the clover one, but the
one that's a bit bigger, maybe the size of a deck of cards...oh, and some
travel irons don't have steam,...but they're like hens' teeth! (rare!)

I have the Rowenta travel iron. The handle folds down for storage. I has
steam and is great for tight workspace.

I just got a catalog yesterday (heheheh remember the Google catalog site?)
that has that iron in it. I wonder if it gets hot enough. Somebody here
has mentioned using it. Can't remember offhand who.
And I HAVE a travel iron. Gets hot enough to iron - NOTHING! I still pack
it along and still cuss it if I have to iron something.

Happy ending for Joann coupon.

Cindy, try looking at yard sales and thrift shops. I see old, (a
great many of them barely used), no steam, metal sole GE irons for sale,
all the time, for a dollar or two.
Seems a lot of housewives didn't like to iron, even during the 50's
and 60's

Lol. I keep thinking I'm going to get up early one Saturday and do that.
Trouble is, I stay up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late on Friday nights playing
in my sewing room to get up. I HATE mornings. I wish they would hold
rummage sales in the evenings.

And I try to keep this a secret around here? But I enjoy ironing. There
is just something so satisfying about taking a wrinkled garment and making
it look so good! Anyway, I would much rather iron than do most other
household chores. Like cooking. And cleaning. It's like mowing the grass
(which I also enjoy). You can't be doing anything else, while you're
ironing or mowing.

Well, the problem is that I'm constantly going back and forth between
using my iron for my shirts and for my quilting. I like the steam for
the shirts and no steam for the fabric. It seems like whenever I have
to iron a shirt, there's no water and I have to add some, and whenever
I'm ironing fabric, I have to dump the water out of the iron. Maybe my
iron just hates me -- we always seem to be out of sync. I'm not too
happy with it either...it thinks it's smarter than me and is always
sitting there all smug-looking. ;^) ;^)

hehehehehehehhe. Try this: instead of filling the water reservoir, get a
plant water mister and lightly spray the garments instead of using steam.
That's what I do a lot of the time. In fact, since I got this iron, I don't
starch much at all any more.

Cindy
