Default OT, mostly - update

I'm feeling chatty tonight, so thought I would sha
In sort-of chronological order my last month has been like this:
I graduated from university with honors, a BA - at the medium-ripe age of 41
That very same day, my BF and I put a deposit on a brand-new
soon-to-be-built somewhat posh (as Kate might say) house (did I say
brand-new?)
I was officially accepted to the Masters program at university
I pinned the twin quilt, following this bunch's advice (hey, I guess I
ought to take a picture of it some time, yes?)
Obsessed for several days about landscaping the new house, which is just
a concrete pad and a bunch of dirt. How twisted is that?
I visited my BF's parents (1/2 way across the country) for the first
time, went well!
Visited a local 'home design center' and confirmed my expensive tastes
(I like granite countertops)
Priced blinds for the new house, and about fainted
Educated said BF about just how much home decorating stuff can cost, he
about fainted
Realized that at least a bathtub drain, two mirror/vanities, most of a
ceiling, and at least one deck need to be repaired before the house will
sell
Ate some chocolate
Made an appointment with a handyman service to quote the above repairs
I had a mad cleaning binge to get the house excavated enough that I
could stand to interview real estate agents here
I got a little depressed when I made a list of all the things we have
done to this house in the last 8 years (a lot, lot lot of stuff!)
Ate some chocolate
Stood in the framed-in first floor of the new house and thought "wow!"
Made a bazillion calls to storage unit places, looking for space.
Finally found some
Made an obsessive list of all the stuff I want to put in storage before
it is time to show the house

I will spend July and August packing and cleaning. I hope to get all
that done, the quilt quilted and the weaving off the loom by September,
when school starts

If all goes well, we should move in November

All this to move a measly 5 miles!

WOW busy?! congrats on the graduation with honors!! And on the acceptance
to the Masters program.

Moving is a tremendous amount of work. But new homes are really nice! It
is neat to have a house and make it yours. Although expensive too as you're
finding out. DH thought maybe we'd have to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay
for all the window coverings in ours! I'm thinkin he was on the right
track.

We want to see pics of the quilt and the weaving! I won't hold you to your
self imposed deadline, but i will start lookin for pics around then, okay?!

Good luck! Eat more chocolate....

Kellie

What a lot going on all at once! The RE market is really hot.
I have a friend who sold her house in a half hour and there was
a bidding war with multiple offers. Folks waiting for houses to
hit the market.
Costco is the answer for blinds. They make them custom sizes in
lots of styles. I was really pleased with prices and quality.
Landscaping a yard is a lot of work but one of those really
worthwhile things. Most important thing IMO is getting the
irrigation first and right. Changing your mind over and over
is a problem (that's what we did) Expect the house to be done at
least 5 weeks after promised....at least. My contractor dad
is the one who says "I've been lied to before" and I think
he learned that from builders! Moving is exciting.
Congrats on all the school stuff. My college kids refer to the
medium-ripe students in their classes as over achievers
