Default photos to fabric

Hello Quilters,

What is the best way to transfer a photo to
fabric? I printed onto computer fabric tonight
and the colour is all weird and I don't want to
muck with colour settings. (That's why I get
my digital photos printed online... so I don't
have to deal with my printer!)

I considered getting a photo T-shirt done, then
cut up the T-shirt, but that's stretchy fabric.
The good thing, though, is that it would be
machine washable, whereas the computer printed
fabric is dry clean only.

So, is there an online site that I can upload
my photo and they will do it for me?

Thanks in advance,
Anita (wanting to make a quilt with my baby's
photo on it for my mother)

The fabric manufacturers will probably have a ColorSync profile
available for the combo of their fabric and your printer (if it's
a common one). If you're using a Mac and some ColorSync-aware
scanning application like Photoshop, that will take most of the
guesswork out of it - almost all precise colour design work is
done on Macs.

Walk-in print shops will do that here, it's better to talk to
a human when getting something like this done so you'll know
if you're trying to do the impossible.

Try "Image Maker - it's got good colour and is machine washable.

Charlie.

I've tried a couple of different methods, by FAR, the best results
have been with the stuff Ami Simms sells.
http://www.amisimms.net/photsup.html

You take it to a place with a commercial machine (Ofiice Depot,
Kinkos, Staples, etc.), ask them to set it on Mirror Image (very
important so your photos transfer properly) and to use the Heavy Paper
setting. You cut out the picture from the transferred paper and iron
it onto high thread count fabric. Ami sells that too.

It really does look just like your original photograph on the fabric.
And you can wash it and line dry.

NAYY,
Kim

Thank you all for your help! I will get a
machine-washable fabric and go to Kinko's to
get their help in printing.
