Default OT Flood pictures of Pittsburgh

If you want to see how bad the Pittsburgh area was hit by the flood waters go
to this site http://www.wpxi.com/pittsburgh/index.html and look up photos sent
in my viewers. There are 80 photos right now. Picture number 53 is the town
where my husband lodge is in. That is the picture of the gas pumps under water.
In the background there is a bar and all you can see is the awning that is
attached to the roof.

We went into Oakdale to see the lodge and to help out. The water had pushed the
door in and it was seven feet deep before it receded. There was 6" of mud
inside the whole building. The guys where shoveling it out. They power washed
everything they could and were taking it to a garage for storage until the can
see about getting repaired. There was everyone at all the businesses throwing
stuff out in the street for the large bull dozer to come and haul it away.

The town lost a fire truck and a police car because they couldn't get it out in
time. You will see from the pictures how bad it was. I'm still in shock about
all the areas that were flooded.

The house I grew up in that is near the Pittsburgh Airport had six inches of
water in the basement and my parents had lived ther over fifty years and never
had water in the basement. The house next door to that house lost their
backyard up to 2 feet from their house. It just washed down the creek that
looked like a river. The land under their garage washed away from under the
back part of it. Down the road from there about 1/2 mile they had to rescue
people from three houses by life boats. I heard this from church because the
people that lost their backyard go to our church. I called my Mom and asked her
if that creek ever came over the bank in the fifty some years she lived there
and she said never.

Sorry if it seems like I am rambling I am just amazed at this flooding and how
it has effected sooo many areas around here. It is just unbelievable. Thanks
for listening.

Jiminy.

DH and I went out bicycle riding this afternoon and our local river is
above flood stage (impressively so, to our eyes), but it's nothing like
Pittsburgh's catastrophe.

And we still haven't heard from our son's godparents in Pittsburgh.
Getting a bit anxious now, but it's *probably* (knock on wood) the power
outage.

That's scary! My son and family used to live in North Hills. They were up
on a hill, but I'll bet you can't get down from their place now. Thanks for
the link to the pictures. Makes me realize how lucky we are here in the
Idaho high desert.

Some minor pics of flooding in our neck of the woods:
http://www.pressconnects.com/today/t...4s117791.shtml

The really impressive one of the local high school underwater was in the
Sunday paper, but not in the online paper.
