Default a wild idea for Hug blocks

I have a wild and crazy idea. What if all the huggers on the hug list were
to go to the same web site and buy the same 6 1/2" square ruler as I have?
................ nahhhh............... Life might get boring if we get too
much uniformity going on! LOL

(but if you're interested, I will DEFINITELY post the web site, because I'm
half serious about this proposal)

My main concern is that people will start to worry that their blocks aren't
"good enough". Far better to send a block made with love and generosity, and
have it be the wrong size, than to not send anything, fearing that it's not
worthy. It's great if the blocks are all the same size, or slightly over so
they can be trimmed down. But that's not the important part of a hug block,
IMHO.

LOL - hmm sure post the site and while you are at it - would you add me
to the hug list. I can't make any promises about getting blocks done, but I
am more likely to get one done if I know about it *G* I am in the directory
(if you have it) if not - my email is not de-spammed....

I agree, Wendy, but it sure is nice, and fast, when they fit together
nicely. Love your blocks, folks, just keep on stretching your abilities
to cut, sew and press accurately. That's what it's all about, isn't it?

Now please don't misunderstand me for one minute. This is not a reflection
on the skills of hug block makers. This is a reflection on the discrepancy
between one ruler and another and another, and the fact that not all inches
are created equal in the industry.

I understand, having put together several HUGs myself. I don't think it's
the rulers that are the challenge. I've had blocks that came out to exactly
6", instead of 6.5". I think it's a simple mistake, or misunderstanding. It
is hard to coordinate something with alot of makers, and people should try
to do their best. I'm just worried that new Huggers might be scared off, if
there are "restrictions" on which ruler they should use. And what happens if
Hug Coordinator Xena likes Brand A, but Hug Coordinator Barbarella prefers
Brand B?

It seems logical that everyone using the same ruler would end up with
identically sized blocks. In theory, yes. In the real world, I'm afraid
not! For example, having the rotary cutter not perfectly perpendicular to
the cutting mat will give a slightly different result. Besidesthat, you
know there isn't just one ruler that everyone likes. g

Those of us who know and love you, Karen, wouldnt think for one minute you
were saying anything against anyone. Thats just not your nature.
It is a lovely idea, but Im not convinced it would help. You still have to
contend with me, ruler and math challenged and only now getting the idea
that correct seam allowance size is really important.
When I read your original post my thought was that you just were encouraging
huggers to be a bit more observant about their block size and you hoped your
idea would make it easier for all hug makers. Thats all.
So, you new Hug block makers. Do your best. Dont be ashamed to send your
best effort. There just aint no such thing as an ugly Hug quilt!

Okay, just for fun, and for anyone who would like one, this ruler can be
found at
www.ezquilt.com
and it's called Easy Square Jr.

I use it all the time and I just love it! Have fun!
