I have a trick for making uncomfortable shoes more comfortable; I coat
my feet in olive oil, put on cotton socks, put on the shoes, and then I
run hot tap water on them (yes, while I'm wearing them) and then I rub
leather conditioner into them, and then I walk around in them until
they're mostly dry. When I take them off, my feet are baby-soft from the
hot oil soak, and the shoes are totally broken in.

Thats how my mom is... I swear she buys new shoes every week. Now that
she older she has a hard time finding comfortable shoes but she keeps
trying!!! =)

Wow, LOL! That's a good one, and certainly the most unique collection
I've ever heard of.

LOL Yes, Ricky!

It's actually pretty simple. Years ago, I noticed that I was only person I
knew who didn't collect anything. I complained to my husband, and he said,
Sure you do. You collect cookbooks. I told him, No, I use all of my
cookbooks. People who collect things may use some of them. But they also
collect them just to have them. So he asked, What about all the stuff you
have in the kitchen? Do you use all that? I assured him I did. Finally he
said, I've got it. You collect kitchens.

I thought about it, and you know what? He was right. We have a long habit
(which I am trying to break) of fixing up old houses, selling them, and then
repeating the insanity. To say that we buy houses that are in need of rehab
is putting it mildly. None of the historic houses that we've purchased has
ever had a working kitchen when we bought it. At one point, we were working
to build kitchens in what is now our current home (main kitchen and carriage
house kitchen), a tiny cabin (since sold), and the townhouse where we were
actually living (also since sold).

That's right: Four kitchens, only one of which could actually produce
anything edible. We certainly couldn't use them. We collected them.

BTW: My husband has promised me that once we move from our current
home--when he finishes school--we will buy a house with a single working
kitchen. No more rehabs and restorations. YEAH!!!

You would love a teapot I have in the shape of the Titanic... and on the
side, it says "Teatanic".

Please, keep it not-too-long....I realize for some of us, who collect
EVERYTHING under the sun, the list is quite huge. But it might help us
all learn about each other better if we keep it to our Top Thousand

Ready? GO!!! (And I mean everybody! It helps the doldrums to think

It's 100 years old, and the cabinets were so disgusting that we pulled
them all down. The sink is an ancient double apron porcelain job with
questionable plumbing. All the walls have to come down, which was
moved along by the two unfortunate plumbing incidents recently (one in
the basement, one in the upstairs bathroom). To access those areas,
the plumbers had to rip holes in the ceiling and three walls.

I got to thinking about it....although I mentioned collecting shoes and
small purses, I should have added that I don[t actually WEAR them....they
are for decorating someday, or using on dolls, or turning into lamps (4 pr
cowboyboots, awaiting decorative embellishments, etc.....)
plus there are wigs being saved for costumes or for dolls, and vintage hats.
I have 50 hats going in a line around the top of my bedroom walls, a
decorative border. THOSE, I actually wear, though! I USED to have vintage
sewing patterns, but we had four fieldmice get in this fall....and now I
have vintage papermulch.

Ohhhh... wow, sounds liek chaos!

The sink sounds incredible... is it in good condition? Those things cost
about a grand around here.

We were offered $1300 for ours when we were getting the house
inspected before we bought it. I'm planning to part with it once the
true rebuilding begins. I'm going to Big Ugly Warehouse for stuff, I
think. Solid oak, $100/linear ft. including counter top, stainless
sink, upper and lower cabinets.

Completely glue him with beads and rhinestones.

Unfortunately, he 'died' long ago! (but that would have been cool
because he was made to hang and is wings were spread open - about 2 ft
across!). I had him hanging outside for many years at many houses and he
finally just faded away and started slowly crumbling to death, probably
from the sun.

Not typing much today... I was pulling some grass and weeds earlier by
my back porch and before I realized it my hand was covered in fire
ants... now its covered in little blisters and hurts like he||!

Thought I had chased away or killed them all (*hot* water and lots of
dish soap) but the survivors were hiding from me, the enthusiastic ant
killer... (hate 'em, see 'em, kill 'em!)

Thanks. That's a good one for leather shoes. Much easier than the
procedures you get with those shoe stretching chemicals.
