That's calling EGA "elitist". *Your word. *Not mine. Dianne Well I find all this very interesting! *Firstly, I am attending the seminar and would never ever call myself a 'rich' stitcher. *I saved for a year to attend and am greatly looking forward to it. *While they do do advanced courses there are lots for the 'average' stitcher - which I believe I am. I respect the views of those of you who think this is a rip off& *that the EGA is a waste. *Whatever your reasons for disliking the Guild are yours but don't make those of us who are attending/enjoying the Guild feel like fools! Thank you. *Exactly how I was trying to defend it and why I felt the word "elite" or "elitist" was a gross misrepresentation of the organization. *I hope you enjoy the seminar and the classes it provides. Dianne- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Thank you Dianne! *One thing I find interesting in this discussion is that I hear the exact same thing here in Australia! *Classes are too much (but classes at Headquarters in Sydney/or at group level aren't any less expensive in reality) - EGNSW (Embroiderers' Guild New South Wales-NSW is a state for those who don't know) is elitist and the committee are disorganized. *We only have one state to deal with, not 50 and all the committee come from Sydney, you would think it was easy wouldn't you? *I was one of those who was highly critical of the committee, but when they came to me and asked if I would join the committee I decided it was time to either put up or shut up! *My 4 years were highly enlightening and learned alot. Running an organization as large as the American Guild must be a nightmare - espically when committee members are all over the country! *So maybe next time one of the rtcn ladies has a grip, they will take a moment to think what it really might be like! *By the way, there is nothing stopping anyone from becoming involved - like me you may learn alot. I do agree that the commuter fee does seem excessive for those who live in the city where the seminar is being held, maybe someone will mention it to the executive during the week I appreciate that these are hard times (right around the world) but our love of stitching should bring us together not tear us apart! Sandy I have no time to volunteer for such an org. I can be critical if I that is how I feel. just me, Cathy from KY in CA |
