Hello again!!! (some on and off-topic, mostly, off-topic)
Well dang if y'all don't chatter like a bunch of magpies!! LOL Sorry,
started getting the twang after 48 hours in VA, and now i'm just plain giddy with being able to talk with all of you again. Let me give you the run-down: You all read about the day we were supposed to be packed up and gone and the new owner and her parents went through the house - talked with our lawyer and basically, told him that they had a chance to mention things on Thursday before signing papers on Friday, and that it wasn't my concern anymore. Check made it to bank, so we don't have 2 mortgages outstanding any more. Got to VA on the 16th, had trouble getting in touch with the realtor to get the keys to the house, finally got her on the phone and we got inside. Offloaded everything from the van and got things reasonably situated (we all camped out in the master bedroom until our stuff got here, which wasn't until Friday!!!!!). Tried to track our things, were informed "sometime Friday morning"...whatever. In the meantime, I located the Home Depot (Lowe's is still being built) and we found the WalMart SuperCenter (needed some clean clothes, had no way to wash what we had brought with us). Within a matter of 24 hours, I had nearly all the paint for the interior of the house, flooring for my sewing room/office, bits and pieces for other work, and I got started. First on the list was stripping down the floral wallpaper in the living room...woohoo!!! Grabbed stuff made by M-1, scored the paper, sprayed it on, gave kids baths, and when i came back down, it just peeled right off...no residue or anything!! Okay, not sure what happened on each exact day, so I'm trying to get things figured out....on one of the trips to Home Depot, I almost ran over a little kitten that was staggering badly and having spasms. Another lady stopped and she managed to get a box, I dumped the trash container in the van, and scooped him up (Rebekah was with me and the entire way to the vets, she was going, "aww, poor kitty, don't worry, mommy's here."). Got the cat to the vet...simply walked in, said, "help" and I was whisked to a room and immediately visited by 2 techs, followed by the doc. I informed them that I couldn't take the kitten because of my 3 adult males, but that I *did* want to be kept updated on the condition. Apparently, the cat had received a serious blow to the head (not sure if deliberate or accidental) and it appears to be blind, but they are taking care of it for now. Back to HD, bought new fridge and stove (think the ones here are from when the house was originally done, in the late 70s!!). Movers get here around 1030 on Friday instead of 9, like they were supposed to, but that was okay as we were up around 6am, and I got back to work putting the remainder of the flooring in (funny, just removed the casing around the closet doors and had a perfect fit, no cutting down of boards or anything!). Still have a little bit to do where the room exits to the hallway, but can't do it now as there are boxes everywhere!!! Unloaded truck ALL day Friday until around 8pm, guys weren't informed that ours was an unpack, so they came back Saturday and unloaded most of the stuff from boxes (except for the books that were in our basement...they will be going up in Ken's office, once we get it finished - insulation, walls, floor, etc...lol). Ken and I spent Sunday trying to get at least one room cleared out and usable...he did the family room with the tv and worked a bit in our room, I did the kitchen, Thomas' room, Rebekah's room, and tried to figure out what ot do about the sewing room. Today was the first day of school...Thomas, Rebekah, and I woke up at 640am, Ken had alreayd been up for a while so that he could get a chower and what-not (we have 2 full bathrooms, so he showered downstairs, which was very nice as the upstairs bathroom is between the MBR and Rebekah's room). Got everybody dressed and ready to rock. Had a cup of coffee, made a cinnamon-raisin bagel for thomas (gave a little bit to Rebekah), packed lunch for Thomas, went through everything to see if I had missed anything. Waited for the bus.....waited....waited.....waited.....drove to next bus stop to ask if they knew where we were supposed to be, in the process, missed the bus sigh. Got Thomas to school in time, found bus driver, confirmed that she was the one who would be picking up/dropping off Thomas, and asked about bus stop. SHe said to just wait at the end of the driveway :-) Once Thomas was at school, it was time to try and locate a Cingular store, in another city, but only about 15 miles away...did that, have local cell number now, called insurance agent to set appointment, headed back to house. Grabbed lunchable for rebekah, hunted up papers for insurance guy, loaded back up in van, off to office, dropped off papers (have to return in a couple of days so that he can get our new stuff set up). Back home, rebekah had some cartoons while I started trying ot sort through the boxes in my room....found a lot that didn't belong in here (Christmas decorations, boxes of stuff that are supposed to go to Ken's room when it is done, etc.), but *did* empty some of the fabric boxes and get them into cabinets. I will have to empty and reshuffle them once I see exactly what all I have, but at least there are less boxes in the room grin. I did my room backwards....flooring before painting, but I didn't know what colors i wanted in here. Oh well, drop cloths are my friend....and anyway, I needed new trim for the room, so it's no big deal (we still have spacers around the edge of the new flooring, so it should shift, and with as much stuff as is in here now....lol). Will probably find a small area rug so that it will cover the floor between/under both tables/desks, and need to get a rolling chair as well. I'm currently using a bit of fabric that I can't remember it's original use under my chair to protect the floor, but hey...it's better than nothing, right?? Um...um...Thomas made it home safely, but once home, got into a little bit of trouble...he didn't eat his lunch...just the popcorn that I packed as part of his lunch and the gatorade. Asked him why and he told me he didn't know it was there...HUH????? He had to have seen the sandwich because it was between the gatorade and the popcorn. ARGH!!! Talked with his teacher and she said that there was so much chaos today (first day of school) that a lot of children only ate their snack, but then I reminded her about his meds, and that he NEEDS to eat. SHe said that she or the aide would make sure that he ate at least half his lunch from now on (FYI: he's on Concerta for ADHD, and one of the side effects is decreased appetite....he's 5.5yrs old and weighs only 38 lbs.). So....that's pretty much what's been going on. I made a list of things to be done - everything that we know of right now - room by room, and will be trying to get everything taken care of a little at a time. Ken will be doing the priming of some of the walls, and i will be doing the majority of the rest of the work. Since Ken has to set up his computer tonight, I will be trying to get our bedroom straightened up...we are trying to figure out how to set everything up...bed location, etc. It may take a while to get everything figured out, and i may not be as chatty as i normally am for a few days, but..................... I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK KKKKKKKKKKKK!!! Larisa P.S. please note new name grin Also, email address linked with name is valid, just not main email address |

WOW and congrats Larisa - sounds like you're getting there! Sending
you a hug and a nice, long , hot soak in a tub! LOL We are going to be moving too - from one too old house to another newer, bigger old house that has YUCKY wallpaper in kitchen that I think they super glued to the wall. Can you give me the name/info of this "Grabbed stuff made by M-1, scored the paper, sprayed it on, gave kids baths, and when i came back down, it just peeled right off...no residue or anything!!" I'd really like to try something that someone else has already found to work! Don't overdo yourself and give that boy lots and lots of lovin'! (I understand the ADHD, have one that really has a rough time with changes to his routine/schedule/surroundings) Hugs! Tina |

Hi Larissa, I was just thinking that we have not heard from you lately.
Glad to hear you got there in one piece. We are 10 days away grom the move. Tonight I finished packing my sewing room. My DH and I accomplished alot this evening. Very encouraging to know we are almost done packing. On the other side I have to unpack it all! Our move is only 14 miles away, but we will be in a rental for about 1 month until the house is finished. Good news, the new house is just around the corner from our temp house. I am hoping to be able to paint before we move in. Keep us posted. Sounds like you guys are getting into the daily grind just fine. Hugs, Linda |

Woooooo Hoooooo!!!! you made it back! After quite an adventure too.
Gosh I have missed you! -- Jessamy In The Netherlands www.geocities.com/jess_ayad http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jess_ayad/my_photos ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well dang if y'all don't chatter like a bunch of magpies!! LOL Sorry, started getting the twang after 48 hours in VA, and now i'm just plain giddy with being able to talk with all of you again. Let me give you the run-down: I'm going back to bed! You are just too damned energetic, woman! ;D Glad to see you back. If Thomas's apatite is compromised by the meds, why not pack a carton of milkshake for his lunch? Hight-octane fuel in a small box, and liquid rather than solid. We can get little cartons of UHT flavoured milk here. There's also an arrangement where the kids can get a carton of fresh milk per day (used to be 'free' - as in paid for by taxes, but now we have to pay for it by the term). -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |
