OT Completely: Freezing cheese?
Is it possible to freeze shredded cheese and then thaw it
successfully? I know that cheese is frozen on pizza and in lasagna and other dishes. But what about a bag of shredded cheese? Last shopping trip resulted in a 6 pound bag of Mozzarella, which is about 4 pounds more than we can eat before it goes bad. Sunny |

It is fine for cooking in future, which is probably how you'd use your
shredded mozzarella. Cheese for sandwiches or for nibbling is not as good in texture if frozen first, IMO. -- Pat "Sunny" wrote in message ... I've just returned from Spain with the flights going through Amsterdam airport --- the cheese on sale there looked wonderful and cheap, but sadly only for EU countries. Oh, it was so tempting, huge balls and wheels of cheese. Cheers Bronnie |

I've done it accidentally thousands of times putting groceries away, it
never seems to have much adverse effect. -- Debi Education is when you read the instructions. Experience is what you get when you don't. "Sunny" wrote in message ... I have frozen blocks of Mozarrella before and the bonus is when thawed it
ussually crumbles up so no need for shredding for the pizza. Woodys Girl "Sunny" wrote in message ... Is it possible to freeze shredded cheese and then thaw it successfully? Yes, it is. I buy the shredded cheddar double-packs at Sams Club, and
always put one in the freezer. Same with mozzarella. I have tried blocks of cheddar too, but they do tend to crumble after they've been frozen...great for cooking, but not for a cheese and cracker tray! -- Alice in PA http://community.webshots.com/user/twosonsatpsu "Sunny" wrote in message ... probably actually good for you jeanne. Piggybacking on here, if you spread it out on some freezer paper on a cookie
tray, freeze it, and then put it back in the bag, it's much easier to pull out only what you need. I use this method all the time for seasonal produce and sale items. -- Kathy A. Sunny, I always keep shredded cheese in the freezer. G Works fine for
anything you will be cooking/heating. Most of the time there is no need to thaw it for much of anything. It will thaw either when heated, or quickly thaw if used un-heated.
