Happy Dance :)
Sunday night I finished another quilt, and today I took pics and put
them on my site at http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1/sampler.html (at the bottom of the page). This is one that started out to be a block challenge in the online francophone group I belong to, but it became something of a nightmare when I realized that every block was a wildly different size, varying from 8" to 13". I'd made all of them myself, but I hadn't redrafted the patterns to a standard size first. Setting them together was the real challenge. However, a Setting Solutions class with Sharyn Craig last summer solved my problems (she had me remake most of the blocks to get them to a uniform size -- some were cut down, others had stuff added to make them larger), and now the quilting, binding and label are all in done. This one is going to my step-sister -- the one who's taking me to China in March. She doesn't know about it yet. g I'm calling it Réussite, since it's a success story ("réussite" means "success" in French) I didn't think was going to happen. One little postscript: Sharyn Craig will be teaching a couple of classes here in LV this weekend, and I'm planning to show her the finished quilt before mailing it to my DSS -- I have to prove I could do it! That's gorgeous, Sandy! Color on black is always very striking. Well done!

Sandy,
That is stunning - really lovely. What a wonderful variation on the Sampler theme. I love different sized blocks, but that setting has worked so very well. And I'm so glad you used the blue for the quilting. I wouldn't have had the courage, but it is so the right thing. Having just tried to do some free-motion feathers, I know how difficult they are - yours are just beautiful. So glad to have seen it finished. I bet Sharyn Craig will be really excited to see it. .. Thanks, Pat! The blue was a suggestion from a friend who does long-arm quilting. I gulped and took her advice, and now I'm glad I did. I'd been tempted to use black, but I didn't think I'd like how it looked on the colored areas. -- Sandy in Henderson, near Las Vegas my ISP is earthlink.net -- put sfoster1(at) in front http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1 |

I'd really like to know the name of the block in centre bottom if you still have it. Cheers from Sally in Tasmania |

The thread is my favorite: 50 weight Aurifil. I used one of their variegated ones, a pale blue. I think the color number is 3770. That Aurifil thread is just wonderful, both for piecing and for quilting, and it's also been recommended for appliqué because it's so fine. There are heavier weights in the same brand, but I haven't used them yet. -- Sandy in Henderson, near Las Vegas my ISP is earthlink.net -- put sfoster1(at) in front http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1 |
