Actually, I am the Pat who is Official
Chocolate Taster of RCTQ. So, I am the
one who checks your supply and approves
it, or gives advice on a preferred type.

I'm working on one for Sasha, chief QI. She could use a little
cheering up... though a lovely black Minkee remnant brought joy into
her morning medicine-routine yesterday. Check out
http://community.webshots.com/user/Jo_in_Scotland It's the last photo
in the Sasha album.
No photos of her quilt yet! Maybe next week when I get Monday
evening off...

Has anyone made a quilt for a cat?

Yes.

Polly Ester has kindly sent a quilt for Our Tom, and you can see a good
pic of him on it he http://runningscared.org/files/jazz-tomquilt.jpg
yes, it's faux fur on one side and batik on the other.

I've made one of Colin's face, but I have to post it.

I think I want to make for Sassy now... she was diagnosed today with
diabetes.

And of course there's Jill who makes quilts for homeless animals in a LOT
of shelters.

That is more than content - that is sheer bliss! I can
almost feel those sharp little claws kneading and pummelling
in ecstasy. That tiny smile says it all.

Howdy!

Jean B, JoAnn's *is* having a sale,
and/but-- they'll have another! g
And they'll have 40% discount coupons, esp. after you sign up on
their mailing list (I get them at my home addy and p.o.box);
they've even been printing those coupons in the Sunday newspapers!
So, don't blow your budget before you know what you want
(I said "want", not "need"); another sale is just hours away. G

Mat: the green one, Olfa:
http://olfablades.stores.yahoo.net/cuttingmats.html
I've used Olfa for 15-20 yrs, no problems. The cutters,
the acrylic rulers, all that fun stuff.
I also like the O'Lipfa (for long cuts) & Optima rulers
for "squaring up" the edges of the blocks & quilts.
Mats & rulers are an investment, tho',
no need to buy ALL of them at once. g

You're new to quilting; you'll get there.
Meanwhile, a wonderful FREE resource is the public library;
most have a varied selection of quilting books; check it out. g

Good luck!

Ragmop/Sandy

Thanks! Today I went to Jo-Ann's sans my daughter, and I
spent a LONG time there looking at fabric--and got two designs
(couldn't even think of what I wanted for a third). Also a
cutting mat (Fiskars, self-healing; I didn't see Olfa
self-healing). I wanted to get these fabrics before the sale
ended today. Yes, I did overhear there was another sale
starting tomorrow, so I'll have to see whether it is relevant.
I am hoping I can pick things up locally and not order, but
then I was googling and doubt I can find the highly touted
brands of things around here. I'll have to see--also whether
there are any quilting stores, which I gather you call LQS here.

In the meantime, I had a few thoughts. First, a woman on
another group mentioned a quilt made from old jeans. That
sounded interesting. Then I started thinking about Asian
indigo. (Of course, one would have to be rich to do that.)
And then I started thinking of some of my fabric hoards from
my past life. I gather the fabrics are supposed to be the
same weight though? How much can one mix weights and textures?

I also went to the library. Dare I say I got two books out of
the kids' section in addition to two from the adult section?
I really am a TOTAL beginner....

Oh, one thing I did wonder.... If one uses 6.5 sq. inches of
cloth for the 6-inch sqs, then why don't quarters reflect the
amount that is needed from hems?

Uh oh. I suppose that approval depends on sampling. I'm
gonna have to google chocolate for this group.... I once
posted a list of my chocolates to rec.food.cooking (IIRC). I
think my supply is a bit low right now because I'm trying to
lose weight.

That's too cute! Now if I knew Mingy would like one, maybe
that would even be my first attempt. After all, he wouldn't
be too critical. :-)

AHA!!!! Another cookbook collector. I have been collecting cookbooks for
almost 30 years. I finally had to sort through them and pack some of the
lesser used ones away. I used to collect recipes from newspapers, magazines
and all sort of stuff but I was getting overrun with that too so I quit
that. I just stick with the cookbooks now.

I stick with books and booklets--and occasional printouts from
online. I have my original 13 notebooks plus about ?7? of
clippings and recipes that I copied. Plus two full-size file
cabinets of printouts. (I went insane when I first got online.)

As far as space to quilt, I have everything set up in my basement. When the
last kid moved out DH and I decided to move my stuff from the tiny spare
bedroom to the basement so that I have more room. With a baby crib in there
it was just too crowded. Our daughter and her baby have moved back home with
us now so that room is even more crowded. lol. At least I don't have to give
up my basement though.

Mika

Unfortunately, the basement leaks--and there are two foster
cats down there. MAYBE I can work down there a bit though.
Of course, if my daughter helps me put the rug back down in
the livingroom, I can set a little table up there especially
for crafts (including sewing).

Oh if it's dark chocolate I'll leave that for the other raiders. lol. I'm

Dark chocolate, I'm afraid. The darker the better. No, make
that about 65-73 percent....

You're a braver soul than I am. I absolutely love hand dyed fabric. It's my
weakness as far as fabric goes. I just haven't had the courage to try it
yet. I haven't had the courage to try paper piecing either. But one of these
days I'll do both. So good luck and let me know how your hand dyes come out.

Mika

Uh, don't label me as brave yet. I am really scared to do it.
I THINK I have all I need to either dye or discharge
something, but I didn't do it today. Instead I went to look
at fabric, in part to avoid doing it.
