Sometimes I Wish There Really Were Quilt Police
"Sir, do you know why I pulled you over today?
No, sir, it's about what is in the back of your pickup truck. No, sir, not the Ikea book case. What is that covering the book case? No, that is not just an old 'blanket' from your grandmother's closet, sir. It's an Ohio Star Quilt. And I'm afraid it's hand-quilted, sir. You can't use quilts in this manner, sir. Well, sir, if it were sunny out, I'd let you go with a warning. But it's raining today; I'm afraid I'm going to have to write you a citation." |

(in article ): OK Maureen, did you see a truck with a real quilt in the back? Did you rescue the equilt? WHAT REALLY HAPPENED???? I really wanna know. Barbara in HOT sunny SC nearly happened. I managed to rescue the quilt from David's clutches before he decided to use it as a moving blanket. And it is not a cheapie Chinese quilt. It is definitely hand quilted and maybe even an antique. Not Ohio Star, I don't know what the pattern is, but it is very pretty. It is now folded up in a pillowcase waiting for me to show it off tonight at my little quilt group. Maureen |

Looks like you have some work to do with David. He needs some
training/retraining. lol I'm glad you were able to save the quilt. Good work. Taria "Maureen Wozniak" wrote in nearly happened. Ah, a good happy ending to the story! Barbara in SC A sad ending: When my mom was pregnant with my sister (she's 60 now, and I'm 69), she started a quilt that was really cute - it had appliqued figures which were characters whose bodies were fruit - Sally Strawberry, Charlie Cherry, Billy Banana, etc. - one for most letters of the alphabet. It was in primary colors - a child's quilt. But she never got it finished. When I was pregnant with my oldest, Mom gave it to me to finish - and I did. When my son was buying and selling his first few dozen trucks and cars, he had an old Blazer with no front seat, so he built a seat up with various things he found lying around - a milk crate, my good cashmere coat, and this quilt, which I had given him, thinking he was ready to take care of it. Wrong. I managed to rescue my coat, and bring it back to life, but I never knew what he did with the quilt, and he swears he doesn't remember it at all. My mom is gone now, and it makes me sad to think of the quilt, because although I have other things she sewed - like dresses for toddler me - I don't have the only quilt she worked on. N. |

I thought he knew better. But maybe because he doesn't know who made it or when he really doesn't think it's as special as the quilt on our bed? Maureen |
