Default OT Immunizations?? For young and the more mature.

Just wanting people's thoughts on this. You can e-mail me privately if
you wish. I'm not looking for a flame war, just some honest real life
thoughts. The first website is a site you can look up the shots a lot of
us received as children. The actually little piece of paper that comes
with the shot is there. The side effects and such that most of us never
hear about, even if rare.

http://www.avn.org.au/vaccinations&c...tions-info.htm

The second website has a LOT of information concerning shots.

I don't belong to any organization or affiliate. Just wanting to hear
some views of people I know. So if you have time and feel like it please
give me your thoughts. Otherwise feel free to ignore.
Thanx

I immunised both my girls. No side effects to speak of - sometimes after
the Measles, Mumps Rubella shot they would be a bit grumpy (no worse than
when teething!). They are both happy and healthy and the shots are a
distant memory - I swear they are worse on the mum than on the kid - at
least the kids get a jelly bean after them!! LOL. I had the Measles shot
when I was 30ish - had never had it as a kid. 2 weeks later I was all
headachey and fluey with a very sore arm (side effects) but other than that
okay.

James had the full range, MMR, tetanus, and TB! No unexpected effects
from any of them, though the TB came in a zit that seemed to last for
ages and has left a tiny pock mark scar. He had the TB at my request,
as I carry the antibodies (which means I did have TB, though it was
totally symptomless, as none of my family remember the event! This is
not unheard of... ), and both DH's dad and step-mom had full blown TB
with sanatorium and drugs, and everything!

I was immunized for everything, and made sure my dd was too. No side effects,
and we watched her very carefully...

We are *almost* rid of so many of these diseases, if everyone who could was
vaccinated, they would be gone and we'd not have to worry 'bout it anymore.
imho of course!

Two of my boys had no unexpected effects to any of their immunizations,
and then the next one had a serious reaction to the MMR (measles, mumps
and rubella). This is rather rare and his pediatrician was obligated to
report it to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). Really scared us,
but his doctor was excellent and got him through it without any
permanent injury. He can never have the immunization again, of course
-- which is actually something of a problem in New York State, where
proof of *two* MMRs is required for admission to college.

Both of my kids have had all of their immunizations with no problems.
Matthew had to have a polio shot for his first polio immunization as he had
a temporary illiostomy at the time. By the time he needed the booster the
illiostomy had been closed.

I JUST mailed all of the medical info for University of Pittsburgh on
Friday. They REQUIRE 2 MMR's after the age of 12 months and at least 30 days
apart. They also require an immunization for menningitist for anyone living
in the dorms.

Our school district will not allow anyone to register for Kindergarten
without their immunizations and require documentation that you had boosters
prior to entering the 7th grade.

DS has had no reactions to his shots, apart from an occassional red bump
at the actual injection site. I've got a script to get his chickenpox
immunisation which I'll get done next month (GP suggested waiting a
month after his scheduled 12 month lot). So far all but one shot has
been in the thigh and he barely notices the first one.

Actually, in the state of California, you can sign a waiver stating that it
is against your beliefs to have them immunized..the school CANNOT, by law,
refuse a child entrance because they haven't been vaccinated. Of course,
the school won't tell you this.

California Health and Safety code, Division 105, Part 2, Chapter 1, Section
120365 States, "Immunization of a person shall not be required for admission
if the parent or guardian files a letter or affidavit stating that the
immunization is contrary to his or her beliefs."

Same down here - kids don't have to be immunised BUT if there is an outbreak
of measles/mumps whatever the un-immunised kids are told to stay home until
the problem is over. Plus you must sign a form saying your kid is not
immunised for whatever reason and your own personal GP has to sign it.

I believe the same goes in all states here. We have the right to refuse any
and all medical treatments and can have our children admited to public
schools by signing a waiver. The unimmunized children are not a threat to
the immunized ones, rather it is the other way around.
