Two NY Quilt Exhibits - Talking Quilts, Threads of Faith

Wanted to share with you information on two NY exhibits: Threads of Faith: Recent Works from the Women of Color Quilters Network American Bible Society Gallery (1865 Broadway, New York, NY 10023-7505) January 23 – April 17, 2004 The 53 quilts on display, made by 33 members, cover five themes: Biblical narratives, women and family, prayers and spiritual mediation, worship through the arts, and Africa American experiences. Quilts include Denise Campbell’s Aunt Jemima quilt based on Job 42: 12 – 17; Michael Cummings’ Black Jesus carrying the cross quilt, and one of my quilts, The Lord’s Prayer. www.americanbible.org There's also a stunning 172-page catalog! Talking Quilts American Folk Art Museum, New York February 11 – September 5, 2004 About twenty quilts made from the mid-nineteenth century until today. Each quilt have WORDS sewn onto them.
