Pre-washed squishies/hug blocks
I don't reject them, I'm quite pleased when I do get one. I just open the
Squishie by the washing machine and after checking it out, it goes right in the washing machine, then the dryer, off to the compie desk where I write my TY, and then it's introduced to the rest of my 'stash' : ) IF I am told ahead of time that it has come from a smokers home then DH or DS opens it for me. I LOVE being squished ; ) Butterfly "Roberta Zollner" wrote in message ... I would never spray anything on outgoing fabric -only incoming! However, there's bound to be somebody out there who's sensitive to my detergent, so there's just no perfect squishy method. I do NOT want another shot in the back of my head to STOP the migraine chain that I just went thru. The shots STOPPED them in their tracks. I was lucky this go round as after a week of them the Dr said ENUF. The med kept them under control but didn't stop them. We haven't figured out what caused them this go round : ( Squishies are opened by the sink and go right into a warm bath..rinsed and dried , put by the compie until the TY has been sent, and then they join the rest of my fabric : ) Chocolate goes to my guys and the licorice------wellllllll, maybe just maybe, I might share : ) Butterfly "the black rose" wrote in message ... Make sure you enclose such a squishie in a sealed baggie with a clear warning label, so if the person is sensitive they can have a non-sensitive person open it somewhere else and wash/air it out. -- the black rose Research Associate in the Field of Child Development and Human Relations http://community.webshots.com/user/blackrosequilts 2005 BOMs: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/blackrosequilts/my_photos -------- __o ----- -\. -------- __o --- ( )/ ( ) ---- -\. -------------------- ( )/ ( ) ----------------------------------------- |

Pre-washed squishies/hug blocks
I live in Nevada--a state that is ruled by the casinos and has some of
the most liberal smoking laws in America. I don't smoke, but I can't walk into a casino bar or many restaurants without coming back out smelling as if I do. But, I'm not complaining!! I'm a big girl and can choose whether to go in or not. And guess what? I'm also a big enough girl to pop a squishie or block into the washer if it needs a little sprucing up. :-) Michelle in NV |

Not yet -- he collects fabric and has spoken of "one day". I'm slowly
getting him in that direction (making curtains and requiring his assistance on some things -- gave him the quick once over on how to thread my machine today, etc.) Of course he still leaves buttons for me to replace on his shirts, etc. *snicker* It will happen eventually. At least he doesn't turn his nose up and dismiss it as "women stuff". Tricia |

Pre-washed squishies/hug blocks
On 24 Nov 2005 07:06:54 -0800, "Leslie & The Furbabies in MO."
wrote: Okay- this "to wash or not to wash" topic comes up frequently. This brings up a question.... how do we determine if a pre-washed squishie/hug block will be welcomed? Every fabric I buy goes straight to the washer and dryer with softener. All three of us smoke- sadly. When I want to squish someone, it isn't convenient to drive 40 miles one way to my nearest not very local LQS to buy un-washed fabric- especially since I drive a BIG truck that gets lousy gas mileage and gasoline prices are so fierce right now. I try to remember to re-wash squishies, but I fear they get stinky again before they are shipped or the odor doesn't come completely out. I also send books to other quilters and I sure can't wash them! What does a pre-washing smoker do??? I truely would like to hear some opinions.... :-) Leslie (got some S'Mores fabric I'm anxious to send out....) & The Furbabies in MO. I smoke too Leslie. I give all the small pieces of fabric and blocks a wash and hang dry them outside. Just to be on the safe side, I always wash my hands before I touch the washed fabric. The fabrics stay outside until they are put into a plastic baggie and pre-addressed envelope. If they need ironing I use my portable cutting mat/ironing board that I keep in a closed smoke free room. I usually wash and mail on the same day. Books are harder. Most sensitive/allergic people know used books usually harbor lots of different types of allergens and avoid borrowing one. You can remove some odor from a book by putting the book with the pages fanned open in a plastic storage box with a fresh box of baking soda for at least a week. It won't remove enough for someone who is allergic to cigarette smoke, but usually is enough for many non-smokers. Debra in VA See my quilts at http://community.webshots.com/user/debplayshere |
