Default cross stitch question

I have a cross stitch pattern that tells me "stitches per color not
skeins. How can I figure how many stitches I can get out of a skein of
floss.(DMC)8.7 yards

11,665 stitches of color
Thank you,
Barbara

There is no single figure that you can use to calculate how many skeins
you need. It depends on too many factors, one being how scattered the
stitches are in the pattern, and this, into the indefinite future, will
remain unknown. Assuming you are stitching at either 14 or 16 stitches
per inch, you will get about 1850 stitches per skein of floss. If you
have 11,665 stitches, you should recon on over 6 skeins, i.e 7 skeins.
However, the number of stitches per skein can vary between about 1000 to
about 2600. Jim.
