What is it with horse hair anyway? What effects does it have with the
glazing? Would sheep wool be any good as well?
I have just had my hair drastically reduced (cut) - It was down my back, now
it is very short. Now I'm having palpatations thinking that I could have
saved it for glaze tests! Arrgh!

Hi JM,

My understanding is that horse hair is thicker than human hair. When put on
a hot Raku pot, it burns into the claybody and carbonizes into the clay.
Human hair isn't thick enough to carbonize into the clay body. I'm not sure
about wool, but I suspect it may be too thin as well. Good luck with your
new hair cut and don't worry about saving what you cut off.

Hiya Fred,
Thanks for putting me at ease....I was beginning to worry about the loss of
my hair (It took 10 years to grow, and 10 minutes to cut off). I had begun
to think that I could have saved that 10 years of growth and put it to good
use!
LOL
Thanks JM

I don't know if it will make you feel any better but all hair falls out
after a certain period of time - so our current head of hair though uncut
may only be a couple of years old at most. The reason our hair on our arms
is so short is that it drops out sooner than the hair on our head. Growth
rate is critical in length of hair but also how long a hair cell lives
before being replaced. In general you are losing about 100 hairs a day that
are replaced with new hair. I think our skin is replaced in total about
every 7 years.... A little B.S., a little rationalization, etc.
