Default New to group - Looking for "Kids" Beads

Hi, I just joined the group and look forward to meeting you all! I
primarily make personalized beaded rosaries, rosary bracelets, and wrap
around rosaries, but am trying to expand into other areas.

At the moment I'm looking for "kids" type beads for a new idea I have.
I'm thinking things like trucks, cars, trains, dolls, flowers, etc. All
in bead form. Does anyone know of a place I can find something like
that?

Thanks!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to the group :-) The only thing for kids beads that I can think
of off the top of my head are made by The Beadery
(http://www.thebeadery.com). They have animal shaped pony beads, and
I'm sure they came in truck and other shapes as well. Hope that helps
some.

Best,
Christine

If you are wanting plastic, www.shipwreckbeads.com has some kiddie style
assortments. If you are looking for another material, please say so and
we can probably give you a source.

Serendipidously, I just got a catalog today from Oriental Trading
(www.orientaltrading.com)
The back cover has birds, bugs, muchrooms and birdhouses, so maybe they will
have what you want..
(I have never ordered from there--just passing this on.)

Barbara,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried shipwreck and they did have some
that I could get by with, but not ideal. What I am really looking for
is either glass or ceramic (or even maybe pewter) trains, planes,
trucks, fire trucks things like that. I have sports beads already, but
would like to get some decent quality of the vehicles to add to my
selection.

Thanks for your help!

http://www.shipwreckbeads.com/catalog/Peruvian_Ceramic
(also check out their charms selection, I saw trains, etc.0

another option would be to create the beads with polymer clay, for
example:

http://www.sculpey.com/Projects/projects_cane_faces.htm

You could make anything this way - cars, trains, flowers, etc.

Hi Barbara,

I had thought about trying to make them myself, but I don't know
anything about doing that. I checked out the link, and it looks
relatively easy, but I'm pretty sure I'd end up in divorce court if I
started buy stuff to make my own beads. LOL My husband already thinks
I've lost my mind over the beads!

Thanks for your help!

Barbara,

I just did a search on e-bay and found some awesome polymer beads.
None in the shapes that I need, but boy they are amazing! I don't
think I'm going be able to resist trying it myself! I just ordered
some books from the library to check it out, but if you have any tips
or can direct me to any other websites I'd appreciate.

Thanks!

Lisa

PS I think I feel another addiction brewing - is there a
polymerbeadmakingaholics too?
