Yes - you figured it right out. I'm thinking you're using some smaller metal needles - definitely try the bigger ones - 10-13 (I think I've been using 10 1/2 as the smallest with some of the funkier yarns, mostly I'm using even bigger needles. Give it a try! There are some eyelash type yarns that are lengrhs of different stuff kind of knotted together all in one huge skein. Some are really interesting, but on a very fine, thin yarn as the base, so it can be a good idea to knit together with another yarn. Others are just fine on their own. Just play away - have fun!
