Rowdy quilters

*LOL* Too funny. We have our retreats at the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel and
we have been given a curfew by them if we want to continue to stay there. There are too many quilters running up and down the hallways at all times of the night making too much noise (giggling and being silly mostly). Our sewing area is open 24 hours. You were lucky to find a hotel to let you in at all. Many hotels have a blanket (excuse the pun) ban on groups of quilters. They've had too many sewing machines thrown out of windows, swimming pool filters clogged with threads, and towels stolen for use as batting in baby quilts. -- M Rimmer |

No quilting there! Yeah, my husband says that's where he used to go hang out to pick up
loose women. Because, he wanted to find out more about the stitch in the ditch. That was until he got arrested and thrown in jail. Yeah he got caught and they said "Book him, Dano!" And Dano said, "It looks like we got this case all sewed up!" Gina |

Oh, you don't want to go there!
I once took the underground tour in Seattle, where they talked about (among other things) the sewing machine ladies in the city. Around the turn of the last century, when Seattle was primarily a logging town, the population was mostly single men. One ambitious young woman decided to bring some ladies into town and start a sewing business, to tend to the men's needs. The business was quite successful, and the city's fathers wanted to tax the sewing machines, in order to make a profit for themselves. They didn't make a dime, but they DID collect the taxes on ALL the machines in the business... "Regina" wrote in message oups.com... And I often wear my shirt about the Seattle Seamstress Union to shows and
guild. Always a great conversation starter! -- Kathy A. (Woodland, CA) Queen of Fabric Tramps http://www.kayneyquilting.com , remove the obvious to reply "Mystified One" wrote in message ... I guess this town is very lucky if this is the biggest, badest issue they
have to deal with, Roque, Rowdy, Quilters! Life is just too short and for some people a little power certainly went to their heads. Linda In Plano Tx., putting a silencer on my FW |

It made me so mad I wrote a letter to the newspaper:
"Ms. Stauffer, Wow! The problems getting a house for quilting retreats is almost unbelievable. I said "almost" because I'm from Montana but now living in Iowa. I think Montana generally needs to "get a life." My hometown of Miles City is renown for its fear of anything new or different. It's cost SE Montana many new businesses and good opportunities and only encourages people to move away. I really love Montana. My husband and I were both born there in the mid-1940's -- both of us to longtime Montanan families. We moved to Iowa in 1999 for better jobs for him and better health care for me. I have many health problems and the drive back and forth from Miles City to Billings was tiring, expensive, and sometimes downright dangerous in the winter. I miss home in Montana so much -- my Iowa apartment still doesn't feel like home. It was a heartbreaking decision to move away and I still cry thinking about it. But I doubt we will ever be able to return. Jobs are well-paying and much more plentiful here. I can just drive across town to see my doctors. Des Moines is a large city, but has a small town feel. I wish good luck to Terry Wallace -- it's a great idea and I would love to attend a quilting retreat in Butte. I also wish good luck to your Butte-Silver Bow planners. They need to grow up and "get real." They also need to get their heads out of their behinds. Oh, I think I could get my sewing machine oiled enough to make less noise. Sincerely, René XXXX" -- "Buying more fabric is good for you. A strong interest in fabric purchases will leave you no time to spend in the pool hall or out stealing hubcaps."
