value in fabric
You can buy "Ruby Beholders" (pieces of red perspex) to look through for
helping to determine colour values too now. They work, but I made a couple from old embroidery frames with some coloured cellophane paper - double thickness, one set of red and one of green. The green is to use when looking at red/brown/orange fabrics as the red filter doesn't work as well there. If you have never used these before it is a bit like looking at the fabrics on a B&W TV screen (if you are old enough to remember that far back, of course LOL). You can't see the colour of the fabric, but you can see the relative value of one fabric to another. -- Cheryl in Oz http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest cawaitesATnetconnectDOTcomDOTau "Martha" wrote in message ... I was looking at old quilting magazines at a friend's house, and there was an ad for red plastic glasses to wear when you are trying to decide about value of a color. Has anyone used these? I know about xeroxing, but one has to get to a machine for that, and I know about squinting, which does help some. But I'm still not very good at it. TIA! Martha |
