My goodness. You mean there is money floating around in high school
athletics? I thought this was budgeted from tax monies! Shows how
interested I am in this end of "school". :-)

Naturally, H.S. athletics bring in money, sales of programs at games, sales of
ad space in said programs, money donated for scholarships, money for sponsoring
ads at the events (either football field or basketball court, or lacross fields
even). Then there is the money raised from sales of team related merchandise,
pom-poms, tshirts, hats, teddy bears in school colors. All of this raises
funds for the schools.

When my H.S. went on "austerity budget" when the school budget got voted down,
we were still able to maintain the football team. They had an income of their
own. Marching band, no, buses to school for students, no, but football team,
yes.

Today is a beautiful day here. The lilacs are budding, the irises are
shooting up, and the maple tree has bloomed a bunch of little girls!

They "sample." In other words, they have pull a grape or two or handful
off a bunch and eat them without weighing or paying for them first. The
rational I guess is "it's just one grape," but considering the number of
people whom I see do it, it must add up.

I've also been told they are checking them to see if they are ripe, sweet,
whichever.

Doesn't make it right, but that is the rationale some folks use to excuse

it.

Also doesn't make them clean or free of pesticides (see, there *is*
justice!)
