Quilt Labels

wrote: Those of you who do quilt labels.... do you put it on after the quilting? If so is it just whip stitched on?? Or do you sew it on to the backing before quilting????? Sad to say.... but in 12+ years of quilting... I have never labeled a quilt.... Jan I get out a rectangle of plain muslin/calico and use Pigma pens and fabric paint to create my design. Then I heat set it with an iron, and cut it down the size I want plus 1/4" all around. At this point, I then put a fusible on the back of the label and then fuse down the 1/4" seam allowance, and fuse the label to the back of the quilt. I've never had a problem yet, because I use cotton fabric and cotton batting. Then I slipstitch the label down as well. This makes it all difficult to remove, but still legible. The time I tried to put it on and then machine quilt over it, it obscured some of the words and I had to redraw those line. -- Jo in Scotland |
