Default Contemplating siggie swap

It was a great hand project. I took the finished blocks with me to Maine
when I visited my sis and had everyone pick their favorite block to
sign. When I got home they got stitched by machine into the second
incarnation of that quilt.
Im all in favor of you reincarnating so you can finish all your
quilts but you realize there is a trap in there, the longer you hang
around the more quilts you will find to love and long to make.

'S OK. I was just reading back my original post and it sounded a bit
sniff-ish. If I'm not careful, I might turn into an opinionated old lady
one of these days ;-)

I do like your square in square scrappy siggy quilt. Even added that to
my do do list. I may have to arrange to be reincarnated, just to handle
all the quilts on that list ...

I wasnt offended. Honest! I was thinking that even a plain old boring
muslin could be turned into a purty and lovely momento quilt. I
totally respect your opinion and was offering an alternative.

clarification -- what I meant by "plain muslin" was just that, plain,
bleached or unbleached muslin, no color, no print, no pattern, a bit
boring. Having siggy squares that contain some colored fabric, maybe
signer's favorite colors or whatever, is *not boring*. I did not
intend my statement to be judgmental, just my personal opinion.

While a siggy square on plain muslin might seem boring consider what
I did with the squares I got and added to my signature quilt. I
asked that the people sending them choose fabrics that reflected
their personality. I got plain, signed squares on prints which I
turned into square in a square blocks and added to the existing (and
renovated) siggy quilt. Originally I had pieced solid color
materials as the center of square in a square and then had people
sign the block that most appealed to them. The new, RCTQ blocks form
the outside, vertical rows of this quilt.

It is a beautiful quilt and a wonderful way to remember some of the
friends Ive made here. No two squares are exactly the same, just
like ya'll.

First off, count me in if you do have one :-)

Now for my $.02US

1. Just a muslin square is a bit boring to me. And I, for one,
would probably never make it up into anything. There was a siggy
swap just as I joined RCTQ that was IIRC rail fence with the
sender's two favorite colors as top and bottom rail and muslin with
siggy as center.

Howdy!
Coming in late and probably missing the point here,
but I'll suggest this: ask over on the Baseball Swap
how things are managed.
We pay our own postage to & from,
including the overseas swappers (who work on a "Buddy" system)
and no one gets stuck w/ the bill. A couple of seasons ago,
the Swap Mistress decided we should all kick in a couple of extra
$ (this year it was 3) at the beginning of the swap for "the kitty"
or "slush fund" to cover the shortages (not all post offices charge
the same amount for the same package; I don't know why not but
I know this is true). The S.M. is not out of pocket, doesn't have
to beg for more $, and her post office clerk is happy (? --p.o. clerk?)
to settle up the differences. The p.o. clerks usually say we add too
much postage, but that's better than shorting the Mistress! g
More details can be found :

It's the best swap I've ever been in via RCTQ and it works.
We just got our latest bags of squares this week and the thanks and
oo-whees! are flying back and forth.
Last year, the Swap Co-Mistress organized a siggie block exchange
in addition to & separate from the Baseball squares;
she chose a pattern, we discussed it darn near to death,
and then got to it; the squares were easy, lovely, simple
(half light/muslin/white, half feature fabric),
and (some) reflect a bit of who we are or where we are or
what we like (mine ff was green, of course g).
Really, each participant paying her/his own way is the fairest,
cheapest, simplest plan we have.
Good luck!

You're probably right on that one. We are new and are looking for
suggestions on how to handle this. Melissa did come up with a good one.
If
I do this continent and Cheryl does the others, perhaps that would
eliminate
some cost. Still thinking about all this and looking for suggestions to
make it work efficiently and cheaply.

No way in heck could anyone afford to send individual postage to
everyone!

But happy to let y'all take over the task.
