Hi!

I'm Leslie- known as Leslie and The Furbabies in MO. I usually include a
"(Mrs. Collins!!!)" after my name. I've been married to the most wonderful,
gorgeous Mr. Collins for almost three months! Who woulda thunk I'd end up
there at the tender age of 54? LOL

The Furbabies are my treasures... Missy a 7 y.o. Golden Retriever, Barney 9
y.o. Golden/Old English Sheepdog, Simon 2 y.o. Golden/Chow, Mojo a 12 y.o.
Blue Heeler cross and Buttercup 5 y.o. outdoor cat... I'm allergic to her
but she refuses to accept that.

We live in south/central MO. in the same town as the Gammill Quilting
Machines. It's *torture* being right here and not having one! I have two
grown sons, two new (adult) daughters courtesy of the DDH, and 4
granddarlings. My eldest son was diagnosed with testicular cancer just
before Thanksgiving. For those who are curious, it appears the cancer had
not spread from his surgically removed "unit". He starts three weeks of
daily radiation on Jan. 13.

I have severe arthritis, so all my quilting is by machine. I'm currently
working on two quilts which will be permanently displayed in my church.
Each one is 6 ft. X 10 ft. I hope to finish those before my 90th birthday!

I collect vintage carnival glass, vintage bedpans and fabric..... lots 'n
lots of fabric. ;-)

As newbies come and introduce themselves, we all say "hi" back to them.
But, while we learn a bit about them, they don't get to know us very
easily. (ok, except for a few gabby folks.... ;-P ) So, as a start to a
new year, I thought it would be fun to tell a bit about ourselves, and get
to know each other. I'm sure the newbies aren't the only one trying to
keep the players straight without a score card!

Ok, here goes! I'm Wendy, posting as "frood". I live in Central NC, USA.
I'm married to a fabulous man, and we have 5 kids, ranging from 13 to 4 yo
twins, known online as Spike and Giles. I've been quilting for about 7 or
8 years, mostly machine piecing and machine quilting. I love bright
colors, and I collect vintage textiles.

I'm Shona in New Zealand. I live near Christchurch (South Island) on a
farmlet with 2 cats, 3 chickens and 1 foster goldfinch (which will soon
leave its foster nest for the wilds). No DH as he decided to up and leave 2
weeks before Christmas. I work as a scientist specialising in weeds (not
the kind you smoke!) which fits quit nicely with my other hobby - edible
wild plants; most of my friends call me a weedo. One of my life goals is to
be able to go out and mow a salad instead of a lawn snorfle. I've been
quilting for about 1.5 years and seem to have acquired a fair amount of
stash during that time. I love bright colours, non-traditional and art
quilts.

Oh, Shona! I'm so sorry about the DH! What terrible timing, too!

Thanks Vivien,

You never know when I will take you up on that offer! Auckland seems a bit
scary (in a grief sorta way) at the moment because that is where all his
family is so it would be nice to have a non-connected place/person when I do
go up.

Kia Ora,

As a previously vocal poster, in somewhat of a hiatus here recently, I guess
I should reintroduce myself.

I'm Vivien, married to DH Tony (duh! - just look at the sig - grin) for
nearly 25 years now (as long as that? - quiet! -Ed.) We have 2 DDs, one who
is reading Law and History at the University of Auckland, and one who has
just completed High School and is about to begin training in Hotel
Management. They both still live at home, where access to Mum's car keys
and credit cards remain the chief attractions. They both have aspirations
to travel the globe, having had their appetites well and truly whetted in
2000, when the fandamily took a 3 week vacation in the USA, and where we met
quite a few lovely RCTQers. This also confirmed to the DDs that quilters
are *not* all little old grey-haired ladies in rocking chairs, and that
Mum's quilting friends actually are better than OK people.

I've been quilting, on and off, since the mid-1980s (amazing what changes
becoming a mother cause), and have completed I guess somewhere between 30
and 40 quilts that I can think of off the top of my head. This number is
probably quite conservative, and I'll remember more as the brain ticks into
action once I've sent this post (sigh!). I've also participated in a number
of group quilts and have coordinated a RCTQ Hug quilt, a wedding quilt for
fellow Kiwis a couple of years back.

I began posting here to RCTQ in 1998 - in the Millennium Charm Swap
sensation, and was instantly swapping fabric with at least 70 of the good
folk here at RCTQ. (Grin - I thought it was my magnetic personality that
attracted you, but I'm sure it was actually the *novelty* of a New Zealand
Signature square - grin). Anyway, when you come to visit (yes, that *is* an
invitation), you can see "Millennium Monster", the quilt the visitors sleep
under, with its 2000 pieces from all round the world, and its global
signatures on the back. I'm delighted to say that several quilters *have*
taken up the invitation to visit (when you come to this little piece of
paradise I call home, your plane *will* land in Auckland) and our lives here
are always much enriched by the contact.

I'm in the fortunate position of not needing to earn a breadwinner's salary,
so the work I do - teaching English to principally immigrant women - is a
job I choose to do because I find it rewarding. I also work one day a week
as a volunteer behind the scenes at the Auckland Museum.

As well as quilting, I also stitch and research needlework samplers, and
between the two "hobbies" find that I have no difficulty filling in my days.
Add in reading, walking, movies, music (I love classical and jazz, and
especially Wagnerian opera), faith and friends, I find it humbling to be
able to have such an abundant life. Especially when the images on TV right
now show just the opposite. Truly a "count your blessings" moment.

As to the fabrics I use - well, let's just say the challenge from here on in
will be to use "stash" ones, regardless of their other characteristics.
Hmmm (grin).

Yes, Pauline, you are out of the woods. And I'm really not so tough. Truth
be told the alligators really don't bite, they just roll over on their backs
and let me rub their bellies. Trust me. Polly

You are one tough lady Polly. Okay here goes.

I am Pauline, posting as ta-da - - Pauline O'Connell. I live in Danville,
CA - just east of San Francisco. I was born & raised in S.F., with a few
years spent in Brisband, Australia. I've only been quilting for about 2
years & have lots & lots to learn still. I'm married to my 2nd husband

(the
first was just training for me to appreciate a good guy when he came
along). We've been married 13 years. No kidlets. Didn't happen the
first time around & was too old to start the second time around.

Presently
we have no QI's; we lost ours a few months ago, but I'm petitioning to
replace him in the very near future. The house is too empty without those
extra paws running around!
I was fortunate enough to retire about 3 years ago - much sooner than I
expected to, but I couldn't be happier not working. I take ongoing

quilting
classes at the local Adult Education Center & other classes as they peak

my
interest. I am on the Board of Directors at my local guild. I've sewn

since
I was about 12 years old & really hadn't thought about quilting, until my
husband decided my old machine was too noisy & I needed a new quieter one.
Little did he know that that was the beginning of a terrible fabric/book
addiction.

Okay Polly - am I out of the woods now?

Ok, well, I'm Michelle, I post as "Michelle in Gander". I live in

central
Newfoundland, Canada. I've been married for 5 years to a wonderful DH

who
supports my fabric habit, and we have a beautiful 23 month old DD who

likes
to play with all my fabric and quilt tops. "My bankie!" she says of

all
of
them.
I've been quilting for about 8 years now, but only seriously for the

last
4. I tend to handpiece and handquilt, but would love to learn longarm
quilting.
I love all colours, they all work in the right context. I belong to a

few
other online quilting groups, and have pledged not to buy any fabric

for
a
year, until I can do something with what I already have.
Thanks for reading!
Michelle

Kia Ora,

And, wouldn't you know it, I see that my sig no longer comes up with two of
us, but is now only one of us. I guess that stands to reason - although DH
Tony's met several of you, he lets me be the one to talk to the quilters.

there by changing the sig without my being aware of him doing that - grin)
